every time i'm hosting guests, i put out the good stuff. by you saying that you only get the ready to use stuff and not investing the time to do it yourself, you live by yourself. you never came to do it from scratch. you can do anything from scratch if you want to. the sky is the limit.

Scalloped potatoes were a thing my grandma would make occasionally, usually for Thanksgiving or some other event dinner. You don't see them very often though, I think it was a thing old people (like Depression era) liked but has gone out of favor for the most part in lieu of baked or mashed.
So yes we have it and people know what it is, but you'd be hard pressed to find it served anywhere today. Like the other anon said for some reason there's a version of instant potatoes that are scalloped but no one buys them and I have no idea why they're still sold, I can't imagine they're good.

Where else would you be posting from where this is a standard dish? Yes, scalloped potatoes with creamy cheese sauce is a standard dish for normal White American suburban families (and if you disagree you're simply outing yourself as the child of a broken ghetto home). It's such a common thing that they even sell pre-made versions at the supermarket.
