Taco is a tortilla filled with things and made to be picked up and eaten by hand the way most people do it.
>ooooooh, well what about THIS taco made out of just-
technically yes but let's not talk about your cooking

A taco is anything in a tortilla like thing. The Mexicans i worked with all referred to pic related as tacos. Cinnamon apple and sugar and caramal. When I expressed confusion, I was told tacos are not what Americans think

When will this meme die? Its not the 90s anymore pablo, hardshells are in the past. Thanks to cultural melting pots like reddit we have the wonders of the $5 street taco with elote brought onto our city streets.

There are literal Latino majority states and Mexican majority towns in the USA, yet Americans still pretend Mexican food to be this mythical novelty.

One of them would take corn tortillas and put a little pizza sauce, mayo, lunch meat turkey, and and some cheese slices. Quesadillas from back home. Always found what they made fascinating to see constructed, different from expectations, and delicious when they shared.
Most places by me have always been tex mex, but a few less tex places have been popping up. Alas, no where with chille rellanos con poyo yet
So, yes, they do

American tacos are far better than Mexican tacos but they are all bad. Tacos are for trashy poor people. I prefer real food.

Thats what I learned living in a "Latino majority" state.

For me, it's the onion, cilantro, and salsa that make a taco perfect. The meat is usually overcooked unless it's carnitas or barbacoa
