Show of hands - how long have you been cooking (for yourself) and have you ever managed to produce an actual fire?
Obviously grilling flareups dont count.

I've used a gas stove multiple times per week ever since I was 8, so technically I've produced fires countless times. But no, I've never been retarded enough to start a fire that wasn't intentional

I've been cooking for like 8 years, the only fires I've started were from putting olive oil in a pan that's too hot. N
Never had one that I couldn't smother with a pot lid however

Oof, I've been making food since I was a kid and could reach high enough to grill and counter tops. So at least a good 20 years and change, and I'll subtract off the years I was getting served food while in college.

I've produced real fire plenty of times, mostly deliberately. Do quite a bit of searing with flames, and of course I've made plenty of camp fires. The accidental ones tend to come from my pellet smoker - I get lazy and don't clean it out, and sometimes pellets overflow into the main bin and poof - got a full up large fire out of control. I just let that crap burn down and it's nice - cleans all the shit off real nice.

As for the kitchen, nah - never set anything on fire, but god damn are the smoke detectors here way too fucking sensitive. Barely making steam and the little shits are freaking the fuck out.

I set an oven mitt on a hot burner once when I was really drunk last year.

That's it though. I've been cooking for myself since pre kindergarten, 3-4 years old I started with scrambled eggs.

people you can't talk about on this board deleted my original reply, so I'll try again.

20 years and never, because I am not someone of a certain demographic.

Some narcissist who thinks he could cook apparently, but he was just recording his own incompetence. Hence the forks. And glass cutting board.

Presumably he was prepping oil in the pot to fry those breaded bits, but the steam is bizarre. Is that the oil smoking off from being too hot? That could be a low temp oil smoking off, and that is why it ignites when he removes the lid. I've never fucked up this bad to know what this kind of fuckup looks like. And he puts fire onto a wood deck too.

>Is that the oil smoking off from being too hot
It quite obviously is, oil doesn't 'steam'. What I don't understand is how someone can be in a room with that amount of smoke and not notice because it would fucking REEK.

I thirty-three and I have been cooking since I was probably four years old, just had my first fire on Friday night of this last week, I had just finished cooking down some lettuce opium that I was making and I was trying to get the dregs out of the pot I reduced the bulk extract in. I extracted it with 95% ethanol, and I for some reason decided to use my gas stove to clean out the pot instead of the countertop induction piece that I used to reduce the extract.
I was trying to dissolve the stuck on gunk with a little bit of ethanol and, unsurprisingly, the steam from the booze caught on the gas flame when I tilted the pot to the side a bit.
Singed a bunch of my hair off of my head, smelled really bad. I clapped a lid on top after a few seconds of stunned inaction and then shampooed my hair to get the smell out.

My brother and myself have started fires in the family kitchen.

My brother put on some eggs and decided to go play the drums while they cooked, he was probably 14 at the time. My sister smelled something burning and screamed out to him. He ran back to the kitchen to find flames shooting up towards the roof and melting the plastic handles and trimmings on the covers above. He ran with the pan outside and left it on the grass to burn. I was away that day but when I came back he showed me the pan and the blackened eggs, we both had a good laugh but he could have easily burned down the house.

And I started a huge oil fire, I was heating up a pot of oil to make Chinese honey chicken, while I was waiting for the oil to heat up I was browsing badassbikinis.com in the computer room (this was 2004). Time passed and when I returned to the kitchen the oil was burning, further melting the same cupboard My brother had melted a few months before. It was around that time I discovered I loved asian girls despite never seeing one in real life before.

About the same as this, probably around 11 or so and that was 36 years ago. Never caused a fire ever.
