I think you may be correct. There's so many amazing examples of great goat cheese. I love how really good goat cheeses are reminiscent of the farm and land the goats live in. The barnyard, grassy, and goaty flavors present in high quality gost cheeses just really tickles my fancy.

It's alright, but OP cheese will always get more recognition because it has unusual texture and mild yet distinct flavor. It offers enough variety of taste that you don't need to eat it with anything else and can just enjoy it on its own.
You taste that thing once and instantly recognize its merits while more "normal" goat cheeses like Murcia are an acquired taste. It is what it is.

The one in OP, which doesn't even have a fucking name, and all the ones in >>21466823 are generally similar. Credit where credit's due, la Tur it's the best of this type of "cheese" but that stuff is still just mush and with its exception, they all taste very similar to one another. La Tur has that wash-rind thing going and I'm not sure it even actually is a washed-rind cheese but it definitely has a brie or Camembert backnote, albeit a characteristically goaty one.
As for the others, they're unfinished cheeses, imo. Give me a strabecco sardo or yes, even the "Parmesan-wannabes" like Gran Capra. They vary in texture, flavour and use, unlike the common "goat cheese" sold in every store in the US.

>which doesn't even have a fucking name
That's how you know it's good, its popularity has transcended its name and for most people "soft goat cheese" just means that thing now
I think it's supposed to be Chevre, and as you can clearly see from the picture it's by far the least mushy out of anything listed.
I rate your taste pseud/10
Anonymous No.21467141 [Report]
only goat cheese ive ever tried, that i didn't like, was one i got in France, it had like, charcoal dust on the outside? wasn't really a taste thing, mostly texture and visual.

i fucking love goat cheese, baked goat cheese, either plane or even better, in some pastry, like you also do with brie and camembert is absolute fantastic, highly recommended.

Yeah nah, you're just a retard shitposter who doesn't know what he's talking about, that cheese has a name, it's called Bûche de chèvre and it's a traditional cheese from Poitou-Charentes
The fact nobody knows what it's called now shows how prevalent it has become, and for good reason. The contrast between the hard exterior and soft inside makes it way better than any of the other "mush" cheeses.
Your criticism of it was plain wrong, you just disregarded it because you thought it's a generic store brand cheese and not some pseud shit with a fancy name.
I'm European btw, and most stores here still sell it as generic "goat cheese" unless you actually live in France.

It's the only one worth making for goat milk producers probably. USA doesn't produce much goat milk so if they made any other kind of cheese it'd be similar to something already being made with cow milk, except it'd be more expensive. They made a type of cheese that wasn't commonly available and cemented their place to keep producing it.
