>Dirt Cheap
>Easy to grow
>Natural pest repellant when grown with other vegetables
>Low in calories and healthy. Rich in antioxidants and is a probiotic.
>Enhances flavour of almost any dish
>Variable, tastes great when cooked, fried, dried, pickled caramelised, in gravy, in soups or ground into powder.
>Lasts for weeks to months if stored well.

Only downsides are that they irritate your eyes and can make you stinky if you eat a lot raw.

Have you thanked God for the onion today yet, Anon?

I like French onion soup, but I don't caramelize the onions, I just sweat them down a bit. I don't like the combination of cloyingly sweet and savory, so I make it a little bit sweet but mostly savory.
