You mean Americans. Very different and mutually exclusive categories.

making sugar from grain has been common throughout history too. people just wanted to blame corn syrup for obesity and health issues because it was something not many people heard of and understood i suppose.

some people say cane sugar tastes better though. if that's all you really care about then that's fine. but it seems unlikely that cane sugar is going to offer any health benefits over corn syrup.

isn't it going to be more expensive if it's made with cane sugar?

Yeah, water with a couple drops of mass produced syrup sold at a 2000% markup is going to be very slightly more expensive to produce. What a tragedy.

Cane sugar tastes better, corn syrup is too cloying
A not insignificant number of Americans have also become corn-intolerant

I have a corn allergy/intolerance which stopped me from drinking soda but I've been drinking the diet/zero versions for so long now that real-sugar soda tastes WAY too sweet. This means nothing to me but if it had happened years ago I never would have lost the soda weight.

the issue with corn syrup is that it's turned into a whole industry just creating that one product and as a result it's put in a lot of things that it shouldn't be in, especially when comparing similar products to other countries. the federal government has handed out massive subsidies to farmers to grow corn specifically for this purpose. and you can't take these subsidies away because the farmers chimp out in spectacular fashion.

They'll make a premium cane sugar version and it will be more expensive but they aren't going to replace the corn syrup version with cane sugar
