Actually there is a good burger place like this near me but the owner literally just opens and closes it as he pleases, no idea how he has workers anymore if he does. Last few times I went it was closed but then someone else will say they saw it open

about 15 years ago that place was struggling. they resorted to just opening on the weekends for 2 years, then the last 8 years old places like this became cool and hipster again now they're packed and the local teens hang out there on the weekends. they close early during the winter for obvious reasons but for 3 seasons they are in full swing

Flash Burger was fucking tops. Decent prices, really fresh ingredients, and the staff were all really cool and nice. They opened 3 weeks before le pandemíque and heroically survived almost a year but ended up just falling over. Fucking sad man.

I'm fond of the asian-owned burger places that all have menus like this. If you live in Washington state you know the ones I'm talking about. They're basically all copying a local chain called Herfy's but they usually also sell teriyaki. It's basically all Sysco stuff thrown on a grill or in a fryer but even that is a step up from most places,

Right now it's Hamburger America on Houston Street, a few blocks from me. Best old-fashioned greaseburgers I've had here, reasonably priced. They do a monthly special where they replicate a signature burger from some specific restaurant/region in America (hence the name). They did a green chile cheeseburger a while back.

My all-time favorite is an old place in the KC northland called L.C.'s Hamburgers but chances are slim I'll ever travel there to relive the experience. Hamburger America here comes closest to that, in my opinion.

Yeah that's the one. I will say that not all of their monthly specials blow me away, they did a burger with chili from Ben's Chili Bowl and the chili just was not very impressive. And last month the special was loosemeat Maid-Rite shit, maybe they do it better than I had back in Iowa but I didn't care enough to try.

Their regular burgers are damned good though

Yeah that onion burger is so fucking good. In a city this big I'm sure there are other places that do it too but Hamburger America is right near me so I always go there.

iirc, after MLK was assassinated and there were riots everywhere lots of DC got destroyed and bens chili bowl was like one of the few standing places and became like a neighborhood icon
i'm guessing it used to taste better and like everything else gets worse over time once you're already famous
anyway, that onion burger i mention i tried, sids diner west of oklahoma city if you ever find yourself out that way for some god forsaken reason. highest recommendation i can give

Where in Washington state? I've been in Spokane for the last three years but I don't really get out much. My son is finally old enough to make going places not such a pain, so I'm finally actually exploring this place I've been living in for years. Really my only beef with the inland northwest has been that the food pretty much sucks, but after living almost ten years in Billings, I'm used to it.

The spot is know for it's chicken, but the burger is the best in the (SF) Bay Area.
