14 inches is the minimum acceptable size for a frying pan if you intend on actually cooking.
The same can be said about knives - if your primary chef's knife is less than 10 inches then you're not a real cook

if you can only have one it should probably be a 12-inch (preferably stainless) but I use my 10-inch cast iron for 90% of meals
