Obviously it’s not gonna make baguettes, but can it do cinnamon raisin bread, or banana bread? What can it do besides plain old white bread?

Thinking about looking for one at a thrift store but idk if it’s worth the time

don't get a bread maker.
knead bread in a mixing bowel and then transfer to an oversized baking pan to knead it smooth.
Much faster than a bread machine!

Bread machine:
>put ingredients in
>push button
>wait a few hours
>bread is done
Making bread by hand:
>big mess, flour everywhere
>have to knead, flour, fuck its sticky, god damn flour now its too dry
>whoops it was 4 degrees too cool in your house for yeast so fuck you it didn't rise
>olive oil boil
>pans galore
>oven heats up the fuckin house
>how long do I knead it for? I don't fuckin know
>bake
And thats how you get shitty bread unless you make about 10,000 loaves to practice

Tell us which do you think sounds better.

>kneading, resting, folding if needed, proofing, baking, etc. , plus preferments, cold ferments, etc if you want to go balls to the wall
vs
>dump it all in and walk away
It’s significantly less time and effort. And if I’m putting in all that effort I’m not going to do it as much.

Eat it
It doesn’t look like it makes that much bread really

I knead 2600 grams of dough for 12 bagels.
A bread machine takes forever to knead a little bit of dough.
I mix the water into equal parts of flour, adding the whole wheat portion with it, then pour this mixture into a mixing bowl then add the rest of the flour with active dry yeast and knead. If it needs more water, I add a little.
I don't add salt or sugar. Bagels go in the fridge. i don't boil them just bake. I proof them in some plastic storage containers. I use cornmeal for nonstick.

Yeah, see that’s a lot more time and effort than dumping the ingredients into a bucket and pressing a button.

uh huh, while you're there playing with dough I'm kneading boobies. My breadmachine is taking extra long to finish.

interesting how rice eaters are proud of their rice cookers yet bread people compete in how much time and effort they can waste to get their "staple" food

It's almost as if there's more to breadmaking than boiling rice or something

>Obviously it’s not gonna make baguettes
You can if you use the dough cycle and then bake it on a baguette tray. I have a baguette tray, a sub roll tray, and burger bun rings. Makes it stupid easy to make my own bread from scratch whenever.

>but can it do cinnamon raisin bread, or banana bread?
Yes. You just need to add ingredients and pick the right cycle. The machines themselves usually list all the various bread types you can make.

>What can it do besides plain old white bread?
Typically cake and jam. The jam setting does work - I've tried it with a small batch. Should have done some strawberry back when they were on sale, but I don't use a lot of jam.

Only thing it's NOT good for is weird esoteric breads and biscuits. But biscuits are so fucking easy there is no reason to do that in a machine.

Real bread instead of fake store bread.

And if you make rolls, buns, subs, etc. it actually lasts for like a week or so. It's only the slices that go stale if you do sandwich bread.

I like my bread machine, less stuff to wash than a stand mixer, board, and pans/trays. But it is a terrible monkey's paw curse - because all those carbs will get your ass fat QUICK.

There is something special to waking up to a loaf of fresh baked bread in the morning though. Thanks to the delay timer, you can set it for like 24 hrs later - meaning just done bread in the morning or when you come home from work, a gift from the past you.
