thinking of seeing someone actually sat down in front of a bunch of raw oysters, I am compelled to walk up and ask "are you really going to eat that?" because it's raw fucking alien ocean cum and the only reason it appeals to people is its out-there-ness. people actually go out and pay several dollars for the experience of slurping down just one of these cold snot nodules and they can't even do it without slopping them up with hot sauce or horse radish or lemon juice, anything to mask the actual taste

Did they at least taste good? Did you hit em with soy sauce or lime first?

Steamed oysters are recommended because they maintain a flavor close to that of raw oysters and are safe to eat.
The toxins produced by norovirus seem to be quite heat-resistant, but the symptoms should be much milder than if you were infected.

the idea of steaming the oyster with the flavorings and serving it between raw and cooked seems very appealing

Last time I ate oysters it was just raw with some vinegrette on it, and half of the people at the dinner didnt touch it and rest had to eat multiples. I'm def trying the steaming method next time.

I sympathise with you anon. I most definitely don't have a weak stomach either. The fist (and probably last) time I tried raw oysters I had food-poisoning. I have only had food poisoning once from seafood in my life and that was with mackerel I slightly undercooked on the tail-end.

6 hours after eating I woke up sweating and fealing dizzy. I had about 2 minutes notice before my body just started expelling everything. I was just lying on the bath room floor for about an hour after that.

The oysters tasted fresh to me. There was absolutely no sign of any deteriotation. No bad smell or anything. Vibrio toxin doesn't give you any visual or other indication so you don't know whether it's accumulated in their bodies or not.

The worst thing about the experience wasn't even the symptoms. It was the fact they were rubbish compared to a cooked fresh mussell. They were extremely salty, gloopy and didn't have any particularly good flavour. Basically, they tasted like a more diluted and softer mussell. It'll take a lot of convincing to make me want to try one raw again.

It's not food poisoning, it's a seafood allergy. Your immune system overreacts to seafood which can potentially kill you: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/shellfish-allergy/symptoms-causes/syc-20377503

Is it only with raw or not well prepared seafood? I eat seafood a lot though.

yeeeup I loved watching Mr bean deal with those bad oysters down at the old hotel.
that's thae same one as where he can't get past the old codgers on the stairs which was utterly relatable and hilarious. Mr bean you've done it again
