>>21482378 (OP)Like 99% of wasabi on the market is fake, most of it is a combination of horseradish, mustard, and coloring.
The real wasabi is extremely difficult to find as the rhizome plant only grows in a specific part of Japan.
And it's a scam with three layers because you have cheap wasabi sold as paste which is bright green and obviously fake, but you also have higher end wasabi sold as a powder straight from Japan and that is also horseradish (but closer in taste and texture to the real thing). Meanwhile the elusive real wasabi is hard to find.
Pic related is real wasabi (left) and the "good fake" wasabi (right).
Saffron is another one, most saffron on the market is adulterated and watered down with cheaper plant stems. You need to look for label of origin labels and the back label.
Red Snapper is almost never red snapper, most of it is other fishes.
Truffle flavouring is usually fake, using artificial flavoring and not real truffles, which are expensive. Again need to look at the back and read the ingredients.
Balsamic vinegar someone explained it above.
Honey is sometimes diluted with corn syrup or outright fake. (Mostly the ones from China)
