I've done this too. It actually does work to raise the temperature pretty significantly. I have a bigger blanket though and folded it over for more layers than that, it doesn't look like there's much air being trapped under that one.

Why would I need to do that?
I have a couple of Weber grills for grilling, a pit barrel smoker, and a 3 ton Shirley for big smokes.
Bge owners are utterly retarded.

They're convenient, easy to use, efficient, and work well as a grill and smoker.
You can get a bge/kamado joe to temp and then basically forget about it until your food hits temp. If you set it up right you can do a 16+ hour cook with basically no intervention.

Stick burners are cool and all, but I like to do other things while my food is cooking.

So a pit barrel smoker or equivalent would work better than a bge for solely smoking and be cheaper as well.

how well does it hold a temperature?
the green egg and the weber blanket modification are to insulate it so it holds a more consistent temperature and so it doesn't burn through fuel

Seems like they win more competitions than bge's though and speaking from experience they output better product than a bge.

>winning competitions
Not really a great metric to go by even if bges have won many competitions.

There are pros and cons to all styles of grills/smokers. I think the retards are the ones that cant figure out how to make good food on a bge. It's pretty easy... Just a little different than traditional smokers.

I've made excellent food on my kamado joe, and I much prefer its ease of use compared to the reverse offset I used to have. The whole chicken that comes of a bge is extremely good.

Honestly if your big concern with a smoker is ease of use then get a pellet smoker, if you want excellent food don't look at anything whose primary engineering feat is ease of use or temp control.
A good stick burner will always make the best food.

Also stick burners are a major pain in the ass that are not worth 5% better smoke flavor for many people. Even sourcing good wood for them can be difficult depending on where you live.

Yes, but they have also lost far more than they have won.
>>21484845
Maybe you should try to use one that is sealed well, I toss some wood every four hours and it works fine/is very easy to use.
I will cede the point about fuel being harder to get depending on area though, that is reasonable.

The point is that they have won, so bad bge food is really just a skill issue.

As I was saying in the beginning you still get great food from it, but it's also easy to use. Bge type cookers are not bad smokers/grills by any means. You trade a small amount of smoke flavor for significantly easier usage in most cases. Some things may be a bit trickier to get right in a bge, but it is not impossible to do.

The great seal and lower airflow, and the 360 degree heat from the ceramic does wonders on keeping meat juicy, and if you load your wood/charcoal correctly you can get great clean smoke flavor from them.
If youre doing indirect heat in a bge it's more like a smoke pit than a traditional smoker really. Like when you bury a whole ass pig in the ground with coals to cook it.

Just buy a pit barrel cooker you lazy retard, it's right up your alley when it comes to effort and actually makes good food unlike your pellet smokers that use sawdust sweepings from the sawmill floor.

LOL. You are dumb, hilariously wrong, and clearly obsessed with Japan because you are seeing Japan where there is no Japan. Lmao

I do have a yakitori grill that uses binchotan charcoal to make skewers that is incredible, but I am not talking about that, and I have never mentioned it on 4chan before. Lol.

Kamado is a Japanese word, it refers to a specific type of hearth/grill that was designed to maximize fuel efficiency due to lack of easily accessed fuel woods.
Servicemen at the end of WWII from the Pacific theater imported them to the United states.
The creator of the bge, what your kamado joe is a rip off of, was a Navy member and after he was out of the navy opened a pachinko hall in Philadelphia where he also sold imported kamados.
Later he made his own design based on it and started selling that and stopped his gambling hall.
You are a retarded clown.
