It's Hershey's because they used butyric acid to make chocolate more affordable a long time ago, and kept it because people get used to certain tastes. Swiss chocolate contains high lead levels though, so who's shitting who?

Don't you want to discuss why Americans accept vomit tasting food as acceptable just because they're "used to it"? Makes me wonder if they started using a chemical that made food taste like poop because it was cheaper if they'd just happily shove it down their fat gullets. Animals.

>Is it true that American chocolate tastes like vomit?
Yes it does.

It comes from Butyric acid which is added because Americans like the taste but originally it was naturally occurring from spoilt milk in the manufacturing process, as hygiene standards are low and cleaning was a low priority.

it's because when hershey was trying to make chocolate the european process was a trade secret and no one would teach it to him. he reverse engineered the process through experimentation, but during the testing the milk he was using started to spoil. it made the chocolate taste funny, but most americans at the time didn't know any better and assumed that chocolate was supposed to taste that way.

It's not evil, just low quality. It's really not even low quality for having the butyric acid, plenty of other foods like anchovies and parm have a lot of that. You could take the butyric acid out and it would be just as much slop as it was before, just taste a bit different.

Butyric acid is found in a bunch of foods. It's the key flavor in cultured butter, and it's a significant part of the flavor of aged sharp cheeses. Aromatic chemicals have wildly different properties at different concentrations, like how when skatole is concentrated it smells exactly like feces, but in small amounts it's part of the aroma of truffles and even some floral perfumes. Butyric acid only starts to smell like vomit when it's concentrated.

People say that because they've heard the story about butyric acid so they then play it up as a dig at America. They're making it up. At the concentrations found in Hershey's chocolate nobody would detect it as being similar to vomit.

It was originally rancid dairy, due to poor cleaning practise during production.

Chocolate Enjoyer here.
Typically European chocolate tastes better than US Milk Chocolate.
I order stuff from Europe a lot.
But Euro Poors are absolutely COPing if they think US chocolate is "Puke worthy"

US made dark chocolate is pretty good.
No mass production trash ingredients.
Ditch chocolate can be good is the right circumstances as well.

The problem isn't the butyric acid.
It's the fact they replace cocoa butter with other vegetable oils, giving it that waxy texture.

Its the same "vomit" aftertaste you get with some beer (which has the same butyric acid naturally). Yeah if you think about it hard, its similar. But in context of drinking a beer or eating hersheys, the slight bitter taste is fine.

Euro here, I tried American Hershey's but it didn't taste like vomit to me. Just regular basic bitch chocolate, maybe slightly worse than milk.

What does regularly taste like vomit to me is many brands of protein bar. Idk why. Maybe they have more butryic acid) l?Maybe it's the whey? Maybe the way they isolate it from the milk imparts the vomit flavor? idk
