I know that they're something like $3 or so nationwide at Trader Joe's for the non-fancy stuff. We bought our eggs at Acme or Safeway (don't remember which; I live equidistant between the two, but I think Safeway since a similar sale started at Acme this week) on Wednesday. The ones at Acme are slightly more expensive, a tray of 30 for $6.99 IE $2.33 per 10 rather than per dozen.
Speaking of Acme, we just got in from our weekly shop a couple hours ago and had lunch but while out, that was one of our stops. I noticed something: besides the egg price I quoted you, Riceโ€ขAโ€ขRoni was on sale for $1 per box. Thing is, most of the boxes had 50ยข off coupons. Well, Acme (and Safeway) double paper coupons. That means that Riceโ€ขAโ€ขRoni is free right now at Acme. We only took one box to test my theory (and it was valid) but I plan to go back later today and get one of every variety. We don't eat that stuff, really, but if it's free, it's for me and what we don't eat, we'll donate.

I miss when chicken wings used to be cheap as fuck and not the same price as a fucking burger in most places. I remember a couple bars having .25 cent, .50 cent or even $1 wing nights and you could get 10 or 12 wings with a side order of fries for like 10 bucks on a normal menu in a lot of pubs and restaurants.

Or maybe it has more to do with how minimum wage is $20 in some areas and places simply can't afford to provide cheap food AND pay their employees.

That's not true at all. Capitalism is literally the only reason we can feed as many as we do. Homelessness and health issues are a more valid criticism of capitalism. This. It's a frozen dinner. The only frozen dinner I ever liked. It's Hungry Man's beer battered chicken with cheese fries. They were delicious. And they got discontinued. Or rather, they got rebranded as Hungry Man "Selects" which aren't sold in fucking Canada where I live. All of their other meals have either mashed potatoes which are terrible frozen, corn which I hate or beans which I also hate. Just give me back my manchild frozen dinner please.

Also, Nestlรฉ's Dibs. I hear they still exist but I haven't seen them anywhere in 15 years. Probably not sold in Canada anymore either.

Or maybe lots of business owners aren't good at fucking business. And there's an entire show called Bar Rescue that highlights this. And if their menu was 10 items and not 50, they would save money on inventory AND make more sales because it's easier to make 10 things correctly than 50 things correctly.

But no. Good workers who want a good wage are the problem, right? Moron.

Goddamn bird flu in major egg producing region, and US farms haven't ever had sufficient biosafety controls to keep a lid on it (probably because "muh profits and muh freedumbs", like making sure you keep trading is a horrible thing).
The result is that only large-scale culling keeps any sort of control at all, and that destroys production, which fucks with prices (because Economics 101).

Because the rest of us have jobs and when we get back home we don't always feel like spending an hour preparing a meal. Just heat up the oven, stick that shit in and it's done. Way less expensive than delivery too. That picture? I can assure you that's way better than what you'd get at most restaurants nowadays. It probably costs around $6.

Missus and I work but we still manage to cook most nights and our lunches are usually leftovers (though we do get a cheeky takeaway once in a blue moon or include the occasional instanoodle or something as part of a meal). It's about priorities. We prioritise eating decent food. You might prioritise something else over that and that's okay.
Still, that other cunt shouldn't have talked shit on your food. This is a thread about discontinued food. You can't discontinue a carrot so of course the posts were going to be about manufactured frankenfood and there were going to be some posts about "frozen meal slop."

Without commercial, mass-producing farms, we go back to an absolute cap of 2-3 billion people running all the arable farmland available to us. 80% of the human race goes back into the vocation of 'farmer' and still more than half of all the humans alive today have to die or we'll strip the land bare trying to feed ourselves and then start eating each other.

We've already opened Pandora's Box, we can never go back without some serious beyond the pale type shit. People really should focus less on the idea of undoing progress and more on keeping what we need while making it less wasteful and inefficient.

The cheap walmart ones are practically inedible with how acidic they are.
Hostess was the good brand and it's long gone.

Never managed to make salt and vinegar chips, they end up either soggy or flavorless.

Dirty little secret no one wants the public to know: most ag diseases, especially poultry ones, are spread from farm to farm by USDA inspectors. It's not intentional. The government isn't going out of its way to cause these animals to die, no matter what /x/ or /pol/ tells you about manipulating elections. It's just difficult to sanitize the inspectors and their equipment so no one really even tries beyond token efforts.
A farmer might go visit another farmer, but most of their time will be spent socializing away from the flocks. Inspectors go to hundreds of farms and interact with animals directly. They are the disease vector.

you can always try making your own as a fun project

follow any generic homemade ice cream recipe (the one with the ziplock bag full of ice & salt), but add in a bit of strained pumpkin mash & whatever spices you like to the cream. for the pumpkin mash, buy any pumpkin or squash you have available to you, cut it in half, clean out the guts and seeds with a sturdy spoon or icecream scoop (save seeds for later), lay it down in a pan, and bake it at 350F for an hour. when done, the leathery skin should peel right off of the meat, which you can either eat as-is or mash like you would a potato.

for the seeds, you can either try planting them if you have the space (pumpkins are low maintenance bastards that can produce up to a dozen pumpkins per vine from a single seed, depending on the variety), or you can oil & salt them, spread them out on a baking sheet, and toast them at 350 for 15-20 min. you can bake them at the same time as the pumpkin/squash if you prep accordingly

if you're having trouble separating the seeds from the guts, try submerging them all in a bowl of water, and let them soak for 15 min

it all sounds like a whole lot of work, but i find it relaxing
