Just got back from a holiday in Italy. I tried many different kinds of pasta, risotto, tiramisu, all from highly rated restaurants. I have to say, it was all quite average. I enjoyed them all, but they weren't particularly mind blowing. What do you think about it? Is there anything in Italian cuisine that I may not have tried that is really out of this world?

Idk, it just seems to me like maybe these things were way overhyped and just didn’t live up to your expectations

My chair force father who's traveled around the world said Italy had the best food on the planet, how could someone in the corrupt and lazy chair force be wrong?

I had gelato pretty much everywhere I went. I really liked it, but it's the same as gelato anywhere. Went to Milan, Genoa, Pisa, Sardinia, Florence, Siena, Venice.

I don't know. I guess I just expected more because of all the things people have told me about the food over there. "Everything tastes so natural," "The food is amazing," etc. In retrospect, they were probably just exaggerating their experience.

if you didn't find any good food in italy you probably only ate at those restaurants where the servers accost you as you walk by. you exclusively fell for tourist traps with kitchens full of pakistanis.

Pasta is definitely top tier as far as trough food goes. Hard for even someone dumb enough to be in the position to make it to fuck it up.

I avoided all those restaurants. I figured that if a restaurant is good, it doesn't need someone standing outside to be a nuisance to tourists. And I didn't say the food wasn't good, just that it wasn't as good as people told me it would be.
>kitchens full of pakistanis
This reminds me of a Chinese restaurant I went to in Milan. There was a black waiter there. If it weren't for my friends who insisted on eating there I would've walked out as soon as I saw him.

Wife and I went to Italy for our honeymoon last year and would agree. We had two meals that were absolutely incredible, but everything else in the 16 days we were there was just okay. The bad part is one of those two meals was from a Sri Lankan restaurant

All in all Italy is an overhyped tourist trap like most of the rest of Europe

Traditional italian food looks and tastes rustic. Americanized versions load it up with a ton more flavor
