Foie gras is delicious.

Expensive wine is worthwhile.
Especially a nice bottle of D'yquem with some foie gras, yeah. Delicious.
Maybe a bottle of cristal with some osetra and kumamoto oysters. Delicious.

Feel sorry for the people that are missing out on these luxuries.

Some expensive wines scoring less than a $5 bottle in a blind tasting doesn't prove there aren't quality grades of wine, only that some low quality wine is sold for outrageous prices by what are essentially scammers taking advantage of people with more money than sense.

As someone who has consumed a lot of champagne and other French sparkling wines, I can assure you that there really is a meaningful difference between the cheap stuff and the expensive stuff.

While there is a point of diminishing returns, you don't get to that until around the $100 price point for champagne and at least $50 for sparkling wines from other regions.

Not anymore.

China has become the world's top producer of caviar, surpassing traditional producers like Russia and Iran. Chinese companies have achieved this through advancements in sturgeon farming technology and by focusing on both domestic and international markets. While China's caviar industry has grown rapidly, it has also faced some challenges, including tariffs and regulatory hurdles for exports.

Haven't had much any of the crazy high-quality baluga stuff but salmon caviar is fucking delicious atop creme fraiche and served on a neutral butter cracker. It's not the priciest thing, you can order a couple small jars of it for a reasonable price and snack on it over a few days. Ordering the caviar is as great excuse to make creme fraiche if you don't have any so it's a win-win.

In fact, Gen A and B will grow up in America that is no longer at the top.

However that is the point, the Chinese removed many luxury things. Chinese cars are taking over the ev market and now will take over the luxury market too. Just like they did for high end smart phones.

I wouldn't trust Chinese caviar like I don't trust chinese shrimp or "basa" or any other kind of fish. If it was farmed in the Mekong, the most polluted river ever, then nope.
But American lobster is just fine. Half of the lobster coming into the port in Yarmouth, ME is bought up immediately from S. Korea. Buyers sitting right there on his phone getting bids and taking it all on the spot before it's even packed for shipping. I'd be surprised if there was any left for the Americans or anyone else in the world. They have $$$$

50โ‚ฌ is enough to make a very fine wine
100โ‚ฌ gets you some rarer, specialty or vintages ones
everything beyond is rarely (not never, just very very rarely) an improvement
and why spend more if get a similar experience?

and if you look it at common (blinded) wine rankings that don't care about price
most top picks will be in the 50-100โ‚ฌ range as well
which again, is also my personal experience

>usually there's some point of diminishing returns
I agree.
>it's above what the average person buys
Lmao of course it is, it's a status game by definition. When the chinks are flooding the market with cheap ass beluga caviar and the plebs get access to it it'll lose all its luster too.

NTA but you are the fucking asshole. That anon was asked a question and he answered. Now you are moving the goalpost. You sound assblasted.

Not all expensive wines are worth it but some are. Applies to most of the other stuff in this thread. Some people will just buy things because they are expensive but they have no tastebuds to discern what is good and what isn't, and will often willingly walk into a scam. That doesn't mean there aren't expensive things worth their pricetag.

>it's a status game by definition
not really

>organic produce I buy usually actually tastes better
>an aged balsamico tradizionale tastes a lot better than the standard sugary "balsamico cream"
>same with soi sauce / miso, olive oil, mustard and lot other ingredients
>fresh wasabi is mind blowing compared to the colored horseradish
even small changes
>like bronze cut paste
make your food a lot better

nothing about that is status related
some carries "status" for some people
but that's an afterthought

>That anon was asked a question and he answered
>Not all expensive wines are worth it but some are
but the argument was something different...

it's that expensive wines are not worth it (beyond some very rare exceptions)
because you can get the same experience with a cheaper bottle

of course I would absolutely enjoy a 2005 or 2009 vintage Bordeaux (especially if father in law pays kek)
but I can easily get an exceptional 2020 one that is just as good and below 100โ‚ฌ

the OP isn't wrong about it being a good selection
just that it's not exclusive, nor strictly better than anything else
