Literally correct, chopsticks only became widely used in China and nearby Asian cultures because forks and knives were literally outlawed by Chinese aristocrats so they could enforce their tyrannical rule without resistance. I kind of get not knowing how to use them if you never partake in Asian cuisine. But for the love of good, if you are a tourist planning to travel to Japan, PLEASE PRACTICE AHEAD OF TIME. The amount of times I've seen white people struggle to eat sushi or treat it like some kind of funny challenge -- it's nothing short of embarrassing, and I'm saying this as a white person who lives here and actually appreciates the culture.

Fascinating. I always figured orientals were just kind of retarded using chop sticks for everything, but that makes a lot of sense. I have no trouble using them and do it with sushi because it makes things a little more fun but overall I find them just impractical and clumsy for most things.
