Their baked beans are tomato-based and eaten on breakfast toast. They are very little to do with our sweetened pork-filled "baked beans" as a side for BBQ. Brits are addicted to their toast. So they'll always have bread on hand. This is just a pantry staple. You won't find people making it from scratch at home. It's canned Heinz.

Their's are better. I had a can of the Brit stuff once and I'll never go back to the American shit again. It's just all sugar. The Brit Heinz Baked Beans are savory and smooth and creamy.
They have a really satisfying subtle flavor.

This. My Dad and his family grew up in post WW2 Britain and have always loved their beans on toast. Its one of the most simple things you can make thst keeps you alive. I dont think beans were a big part of peoples diets over there prior to the 20th century. Plus Heinz started distributing and marketing in the UK just prior to WW1 so two world wars worth of food rationing made it an easy, cheap and effective way for people to stay alive.

It's weird. It's incongruent. We just don't do so much of that slop sopped on bread thing. Bread is dry. You can butter or spread the top but still pick it up. Toast it and top it. Don't sauce it. Saucy beans you could have in a bowl with bread on the side don't need to be combined like some peasant mush. We have beans and cornbread. We have beans and tortillas. Had british baked beans in a full english for the first time today (also first time I had blood pudding)
I was expecting amerishart beans so it was a surprise. More of a palate cleanser condiment than anything. Guess I could see it on toast but not sure why you’d go for it over jelly
