He had potential, I liked his chill behavior too. If westerners cared about this series I would love to see an AU in which either manages to escape or where Godaiin is just slightly less insane and then explore his relationship with Tokiyuki after he eventually meets him again.

I thought the same. He looks like an unholy mix between Tokiyuki and Ichikawa.
Makes me wonder if the latter was also the "favorite boy" of an older samurai when he was a kid, considering his implied sexual preferences.

FubuYuki seems to be a more popular ship than I had realized. You'd think Fubuki being absent for so long would put a damper on that, but apparently not. I wonder if it's the age gap that does it?
Anonymous No.3968722 >>3968784
>>3968410
Two reasons I think. First it's Fubuki himself who has a cool (and long-haired) design and this sort of chill, almost aloof personality that fujos tend to be into. Secondly, he is a tragic character turning villain halfway in and many like that too. It simply provides tons of potential for fanlore since it gives him additional layers to make him more complex.
Also, fanwork is often the result of cope (albeit in a good way). It's common to see fans being more obsessed with characters that get bad endings than winning heroes because they feel like they have to set things right and create a better outcome for them.

It isn't even any of my main pairings (I am more of a team Shinano fag) but I think I understand why it's so popular and I honestly like it too. Especially the art it spawns. Fubuki is getting among the best fanart of ngwk IMO.

>feel like they have to set things right and create a better outcome for them
I don't know why I hadn't thought of this one. I only recently started learning to draw and this feeling (for a different series) was one of my primary motivations for doing so.
Anonymous No.3968870
>>3968784
Yeah it's the same for me. You often see hype for good series with bittersweet endings lingering around for longer than some for perfect endings because they feel wholly concluded. I usually get my motivation from the desire of setting things right for the characters I like.
Anonymous No.3970836 >>3970839
I already missed two weekly threads in a row. I blame the posting time. Chapters are usually out at 16:00 GMT+1 but last weeks it was released at 17:00 (probably daylight saving time in the US if they do that) and the thread was made even later so I forgot to check at that time.
Anyway, last two chapters were great IMO.

Wonder if the second season will bring the people back. I noticed that a lot of fandoms disappear once a manga has ended though, even if the end is decent and the anime season good so I hope we will at least get some sort of early teaser for s2 before the manga is finished.

>I hope we will at least get some sort of early teaser for s2 before the manga is finished
Same. Those parts are really good too, so I think they would help to secure more long term fans.
Anonymous No.3970849 >>3971274
>>3970845
Yeah. S1 was already great but it's basically the intro arc. And even Shokan and Kiyohara get their development and showndown in the next part so side characters like them might get a bunch of fans if it's done well.
Anonymous No.3971274 >>3971475
>>3970849
I wonder what the season 2 cutoff point will be. The most impactful end point would probably be Tokiyuki's proclaiming his identity. But I could see them maybe stopping at Shokan's defeat instead just based on length.
Anonymous No.3971475
>>3971274
Yeah I always assumed it must be the end of the war with Shinano since ch. 71(?) would be the perfect end with Tokiyuki's identity being revealed and the scene with him and Sadamune. s1 adapted ~33 chapters IIRC, s2 would be 38 then. Sounds doable, considering that some of the chapters in the middle had quite a lot of friendly talking and a few action scenes that could fit into one episode.

Yeah. Sadamune's son incited a lot of artists to do more art it seems. Either the guy alone or together with Sadamune or other Shinano guys. Surprised about the mass of Noriakis though. His popularity will probably grow further when he appears on tv next year (or whenever s2 will be done).
Bit disappointed about the lack of Genba art after the face reveal, but maybe it takes a while to draw or I just don't follow any of the accounts that retweet it.

I never understood why. He's funny and his bratty attitude is superb when they're fighting Shinano characters. Part of why I didn't want Ichikawa to die was the long-lasting enmity between him and Genba of which I would have loved to see more of.

Most of the people who like brats only really like idealized ones who aren't actually that gross or mean like he is. He's also not quite prominent or annoying enough to appeal much to kids. Although I don't think nigewaka has a particularly large child audience anyway.
I get the impression that he's more popular in the West. I think we tend to find full blown shitheads like him more amusing. But he's still too gross even for most Westerners.
I love him. But he just unfortunately appeals to a small minority of people who are also not very prolific producers of fanart. And the transforming thing kind of fucked him over. Most of his most memorable scenes are him looking like someone else.
