I also used to think like you, briefly, after my historical nitpicking phase, but you have to understand that history is not just about your personal interests but also respecting the past and the sum total of human knowledge.
Most normies get their history knowledge from fiction, and bad historical representation in popular fiction, whether realistic or fantasy, translates to bad understandings of the past.
So many historical movies like Gladiator have made people think that ancient peoples used flaming arrows and catapults for regular warfare instead of for highly particular siege campaigns, which is not just wrong, but ridiculous, and more problematically, Game of Thrones and the Witcher for example tend to show medievalesque elites using religion as cynical propaganda for the masses, which is a reflection of the secular Western societies which created them, when the historical record indicates that that couldn't be further from the case with real old timey folk, and if you want proof, look at many of the elites of a lot of modern Islamic societies.
You may not want all historical media to function as educational media, but in effect, it always does, and most people will rarely if ever be able to tell when fantasy is not based on reality
