Basically it's about a guy whose friend Hikaru died in the mountains only to return several days later.. but it's not really Hikaru.

im trying to stay spoiler free while also trying to figure out if i want to start this, are the characters genuinely gay or is it just fujo bait, if there is even one actually gay scene ill read and watch the whole thing. i just dont think i can take being baited again

I'll try not to spoil much but: It is actually gay. It's not THAT shippy though. Meaning, the main character is canonically gay, he likes his best friend, and his struggles with internalised homophobia are an explicit main component of the narrative. What the other boy feels for him is a bit more ambiguous, by virtue of... Canon things I will not spoil. It's really homoerotic and charged with sexual tension, regardless.
Tl;dr: it is canonically gay, but it may not have a happy ending where they end up together. Main character being canonically gay is actually central to the plot.

the gayest thing that i remember happening was we found there were like, 3 different versions of a few pages depending on what translation you read, like completely different pages, and one of them yoshiki...uh, spoilers but i never found it again so i dont its canon, he finds hikarus hat, buries his face into it and sniffs it while lighting banging his head against some wall/clothing that has some of hikarus clothing hanging off a hook. thats pretty gay but still not.
