Do you think the inciting incident that made Alastor extremely wary of trusting others was getting deceived by Rosie, or did it predate that?

On the topic of him only feeling like he can trust Charlie, honestly I'm warming up to the idea of them just being genuine friends, with no romance or anything like that. Alastor has most likely never had a true friendship without strings attached, so discovering that safety in Charlie is very cute to me. It's more interesting to me than the old "Alastor is a big bad scary alpha who seduces the innocent ingenue woman" tropes at least.

Personally I think it predates Rosie, but Rosie might have sealed the deal (lol) on his ability to trust altogether. He seems very wary of men, and I wonder if that distrust came from his father. It would also make sense considering his human life, where southern women were typically less ah... 'prejudiced' towards 'colored' men during that period. It's probably why he contacted a female spirit, image the betrayal he must have felt.

I'm perfectly happy with it being a friendly relationship rather than a romantic one. I'm a Charlastor shipper, but not a very militant one since I'm a yume first and foremost. Though I enjoyed the ship because I always liked the dynamic of 'manipulative man thinks he's found a naive girl, who turns out to be not so naive', rather than the alpha/demure trope.

I think it does predate it, as a killer he was probably always covering his tracks and trying to stay hidden since his fun would stop if he got caught. So he was probably very careful about who he became close to and how much he gave away about himself. It could also go further back to his childhood, obviously we know practically nothing about that in the canon but if his father was abusive as many people headcanon, that could have been the start of it.

I personally would love Alastor to be friends with Charlie. I don't Charlastor as a romantic ship no matter how hard I try, and I don't think it would have a happy ending if it was canon. But a genuine friendship would be amazing. He deserves a friend who likes him for him, not because he owns their soul or he's forced into it.

That's true, and on that note I'm a bit concerned there's so little of him in most of the sneak peaks we've been shown. Or rather, that all the scenes of Alastor seem to be before he gets kidnapped. I don't know if it's because it's all spoilers or if it's indicative that he spends a majority of the season banished to the Vee tower, but either way, I'm trying my hardest to keep my expectations low.

Not knowing Al's full backstory is annoying. In the leaks Rosie said he 'overcame so much', which I assume means period typical racism, but some clarification would be nice. I headcanon an abusive dad, but something like an incestuous mother or an abandonment would be interesting. We don't know if he came from affluence or poverty, and only have vague hints at his parent's races. Any scrap from Viv would be appreciated.

That's the thing, I'm kind of...ambivalent. On one hand the crashout would be mildly entertaining, but I really don't trust Viv to write Charlastor in a way that is best for both Al and/or Charlie.

Rosie's line is ambiguous, Alastor's formative years would definitely be good to see or at least be told about in an infodump. I don't think we'll see a lot more than what was leaked this season, if anything, but hopefully we get it in the future.

Everyone would be insufferable if it did become canon. But I really don't think it would be good for either of them. I'm not going to personally crash out if it does, but I don't see why it needs to be a romantic relationship. People get so crazy over ships lol.

I like the level we have it at here. I don't think that romantic ships are massively important to Alastor as a character (or at least, they shouldn't be). That kind of discussion is fun every now and again, but too often devolves into arguments.

Everyone should just ship Alastor with Alastor, that way there's two Alastors.

I think that's an extremely good idea, there's a lot of strong feelings for Alastor ships that is best to not broach. I only brought up the Charlie thing because it's recent news about Alastor trusting her and I really like the idea of a friendship between them, but I have no issue with it romantically either.

We've tried it in the past and people tend to get very 'passionate'. This is a yume thread at the end of the day and while most of us are also shippers, I think it's best for everyone to keep it to mild discussion at best. I don't see any issue with discussing it in the context of the show itself (for example there's been discussion about the potential for Charlastor), but ship talk for the sake of ship talk should be a no-no. I hate to gatekeep, but ship stuff has brought this thread more harm than good.

The full animation of Gravity dropped a few hours ago. I think they're too busy arguing in the main thread to notice. It's not /deer/ related, but it's something.

Human Al has always felt more masculine to me in general. (idk, the hair, the colour scheme...) Though hopefully after season 2 airs we'll get a varied influx of art. I'm sure Mimzy wouldn't have minded helping him out with a disguise.

Looking at the emoji playlist it looks like Al might only have two songs, one with Rosie and one with Vox. Two out of twenty. I hate to be one to complain, but the whole shift of focus away from the hotel to Heaven and the Vees is very annoying. I know that there are did hard Abel and Vox fans, but are the normies really into them more than the pilot cast?

It makes me nervous for the future since Viv is probably going to keep adding more and more characters.

I'm hoping that this season will pretty much get rid of the Vees, except for some generic 'here are some more overlords' shots and Val's eventual resolution with Angel. Viv keeps saying that she wanted to focus on the Vees more as she thinks we didn't get enough time with Adam as the main villain in season 1. I kind of get that, and they definitely did need to be dealt with at some point. I do think the Heaven stuff should be kept to a minimum though, it's good to refer to them occasionally like with Lute's song, I think.

The main thing for me is that the original cast aren't particularly fleshed out in the show, and now we're going to get a whole load of new characters and it's just going to get worse. I've seen people say they want Baxter, but I've never seen a good justification for adding him to the show.

I know Viv keeps saying that season 2 is better and the visual, pacing, everything is better than season 1. But I'm not very optimistic that it will be at the moment. If she's getting spin offs, can't all these random characters just be in them?

It seems like season 2 has more stuff in it than season 1 somehow. More characters, more plot points to fit in, more songs. Given the criticisms of season 1, I would have thought Viv would have pared it down a bit since they aren't giving her more episodes. Unless she's directly trying to appeal to the kids who get a dopamine hit from seeing their favourite character on screen for 2 seconds and don't care about anything else.

I agree. The Vees aren't really my main issue, because we saw from the early days that they'd be a foil to Alastor. If we just have one season of them and then reduce them to background characters I'd be perfectly satisfied. It's the Heaven stuff that bugs me. Having Heaven be this disorganized political force seems silly, it would have been better for the plot if Heaven was kept at an arms length instead of revealing that nobody is competent enough to know what they're doing. I get Viv was going after the whole 'Heaven is no better' trope, but it's a tired one that's been already done numerous times by much more competent writers. Keeping Heaven this esoteric far away force would have been more compelling than showing us a fat teenager in a band costume and a fruity version of one of my Saints. We sacrifice actual character development for much loved character for...Baxter I guess. Soon she'll throw in Crymini and Eve and Roo and XYZ because why not?

Apologies up front for my rambling btw. I'm nursing a sinus infection and the meds make me feel like I'm half way to the moon. I'm surprised I can even string together a coherent thought.

Any time I see Crymini mentioned it just makes me angry. Why do people want her to be in the show so much? She's not that interesting.

I did chuckle when Niffty asked if Baxter was the new Pentious and everyone just turned round and said no though. Because he is? The only other reason to have him there is to make him Niffty's love interest because they're both small. If we were focusing back on the hotel and how Charlie's going to get everyone redeemed it would make sense, get some different sinners in and work with them. But there's so much else going on that it just makes it pointless.

Heaven is basically a mess. And not in an interesting way, where the recent events have destabilised things and they're trying to hang on to whatever upper ground they have. Sera is completely useless as a leader and doesn't seem to know anything, and everyone under her is even more clueless. I would prefer to have hints that things are not all ok up there than see it all played out.

Part of me thinks it's the same type of person who would scream at every little Easter egg in something like the Minecraft movie. They don't really care for the show past pointing and screaming 'I know that character!', 'I get that reference!' Truthfully, I don't think we need any new characters unless they add depth to the existing ones. If Baxter does that for Niffty, fine. I'm okay with cameos from Mimzy and other characters like Angel's family, because it can give us more insight into the characters if done properly. But Crymini? We already have Cherri lol. On the Heaven front I feel like it's just an excuse for Viv to dump a new character of the week there, since thematically it adds very little.

Skimming through the conversations here, wasn't a major issue with Viv's furry comic (I'm blanking on the name of it) that it completely went off the rails and lost all focus? This seems to be a chronic problem of hers

I agree, the new characters should complement the existing cast. Otherwise it just gets convoluted and you end up with too much to resolve properly. Viv isn’t the greatest writer at the best of times.

It's pretty obvious he does this to Husk as a way to project and reaffirm his own power. Rosie is constantly petting Alastor on the head and demeaning him in their song (the same way Al pet Husk), so it makes sense that Alastor would do the same to his own subordinates. In a way, it's kind of sad and pathetic on Al's part. Like a kid exerting power on a "lesser" creature after being scolded by their parents.
