Why isn't Jubilee more popular?

God I recognize that artist, he refuses to label it as AI, he's been told so many times to mark them as AI, apparently he's very fat and very smelly from what I have heard from people actually know him like he's a pure shut-in sits around gaming all day

She's imprinted on comicbook readers that she is a support character and not a main

All jokes aside, I think the reason is most people still view her as the largely useless fireworks show that she was in the 90's cartoon, when the practical applications of it are more like being a walking plasma-thrower with control over the ionized gas.

Claremont got bored of Kitty who 'aged out' in comic terms and so he created Jubilee and pushed her like crazy in the 90s then she aged out. Gen X fanboy writers came in and pushed Kitty again, so I'm sure Jubilee's time will come back.

Never liked her. Sass just came off as cunty. Arguably her best moment was having the hots for Jason Todd in the DC/Marvel crossover.

While most people like Jubes because of the X-men cartoon, having the Wolverine comic with Jubes as the sidekick written by Legend Larry Hama, turned out to be a major bonus.

Dazzler's entire character concept of being a singer who's secretly also a superheroine got derailed towards the end of her solo book when she got publicly outed as a mutant and the public turned against her, then after the book was cancelled she got pulled into the main X-Men book, reducing her to just a team book character in most people's eyes, and a team that already had a lot of more popular heroines. She was allegedly forced into the book by someone in editorial, Claremont didn't want her there, and the way he wrote her seemed intended to make readers dislike her. The writers that followed in the 90s relegated her to just being Longshot's love interest for years, and since they broke up she's just been part of random X-book lineups. Her only memorable exposure outside of comics was the 1980s X-Men cartoon pilot episode, and the 1992 arcade game based on it.

If Dazzler wasn't a mutant, she'd probably be in a better position, where she could have occasional nostalgia runs that were truer to her original concept, written by waifufags who grew up and got jobs at Marvel, the same way Spider-Woman does.

She's a better character than both of them. Dazzler has never had a real personality, Kitty was always a Mary Sue. Jubilee had a lot of work put into her in comparion, especially by Lobdell, and is thus a way more rounded character. The real issue is nobody after Generation X having a real idea what to do with her which ties into the problem of writers making teams without thinking about how all the characters fit together.

Alright, so if you go back to his oldest pictures, he used to be one of those shitty "foot/tickle edits" where he'd lazily photoshop a picture combining a foot pic with the feet of a popular celebrity.

His current stuff is basically the same shit. It's apparently a technique called "art
manipulation." He has a post up about it on his DA.
He what he does is takes a fan art picture, photoshops it in with a foot or tickling picture, and then brushes/traces over and adds the filters to make it all blend together and look like an original picture.
So it's not AI, but it's basically just the human version with the same general thievery.

I'm in the process of reading Claremont's Alien Vs Predator run and the man fucking loves his angst. His Alien Vs Predator run literally centers around a genetically engineered trophy wife discovering that she's little more than an object to the people around her as the Alien and Predator's shenanigans make it more chaotic and she realizes that she feels more connection to the yautja that's going around murdering the shit out of her loved ones than she does to said loved ones.
Given her backstory, it feels like that "doesn't wanna be there but has been forced into the situation" is precisely the kind of character he enjoys.

If you're talking about the artist. Meh. The irony is he's still not the worst of the the ticklefag slop churner, that honor will always go to Countfire.
If you're talking about Claremont. He's always been a massive soap opera writer. The AvP line has always taken more from the Alien side of things with its setting while the human protagonists have typically been a Predator supporting cast with the main protag taking more from so the kinda cyberpunk-y psychological stuff is already up Claremont's alley in terms of the drama he can insert.
I think part of what drew artists to that line to begin with is that it was a chance to do more serious weird sci-fi storytelling without all the bright colors and fantasy-disguised-as-scifi of a comic book.
Considering Claremont wanted Nightcrawlers origin to involve Mystique changing herself into a futanari on a genetic level long enough to impregnate her lover.
It kinda makes sense that Claremont would be drawn to AvP and especially the more psycho-sexual and cyberpunk themes of the Alien

I don't think it was unknowingly. Marvel in the 2000s attempted to do everythig they could to distance themselves from and bury they '90s. They didn't treat Jubilee as bad as they did characters like Gambit and Bishop but she got jerked around a bit and I think her fate was sealed when that Kirkman solo sold so bad it was axed via turning it into a miniseries (didn't help that it was really bad; Kirkman sucks).

Not as pretty as the blondes and red heads. Too much angsty teen girl vibes in a very dark, serious, dangerous world. (Which is why rigid, very serious adult mainstays like Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto work so well in that universe.) Jubilee stands in stark contrast to the original plot of "kill all the mutants." That theme makes the world of X Men so jaded with hate and grief that it really stunts the mutants with superpowers genera, badly. Or if the writers must have their dark universe, the Sentinels and Mutant Control Squads need to be real threats, not just straw men to keep from showing blood in a children's show. Jubilee is jarringly out of place in such a world. She's from a happier, wackier, friendlier, party girl universe and she always looks like she's bothered to be in the scene. Her's is not a plot consistent vibe for a nightmare world of unjust persecution. Take away her super powers, put her in a Faux Punk universe and she wouldn't miss a beat. She's not actively a badly written character, just badly out of place.

I never really was a huge fan of Jubilee. I don't hate her or anything but she never stuck with me like other X-girls and I have a few ideas why
1. Her aesthetic is too steeped in her era of the 90's, it's too iconic to change and yet does her no favors in the modern day.
2. She is the latest version of the Kid role that gets passed off every decade, from Kitty in the 80's to Jubilee in the 90's to X-23 in the 00's to Kamala in the modern day.
3. Thematically, fireworks is a cool idea for a Chinese mutant to have (being China is the birthplace of fireworks) but it is really hard to stand out with it as a mutant power when every other mutant is already firing some kind of energy from her hands. Cyclops/Havok already have a handle on energy blasts, Storm has lightning and Gambit has exploding cards, it feels like everything Jubilee can claim to do there's another more famous X-men who can do it better.

The "subatomic" thing is pure power wank to make it so her powers aren't seen as lame but I think it works reasonably well for her character. She is (or could be when youger) bratty but she's ultimately got the biggest heart of anyone. She doesn't want to hurt people if she can help it tied to the memory of how violently her powers manifested. She's more of a slippery and wiley thief type than a nuke and her use of her powers goes with that. If she's blowing things up then it means she's lost her cool which is naturally something that you don't want.
