Yo, I'm a tourist from outside /co/ and I came here specifically to ask what the fuck is going on with Bob's Burgers
the TV runs it in the middle of the night when nobody's watching, after more popular adult cartoons.

I can't help but sit and wonder what the fuck the show is supposed to be. Who does it appeal to?
The entire show is as if they're so scared they might accidentally incite any sort of emotion in someone that they toned it down as much as possible.
such amazing plots as:

>let's almost develop a character, but then let's not

I assumed it only exists because it costs pennies to make those literal bowling pin characters with ZERO facial expressions and emotions and have them stand there talking in front of static backgrounds.
Seriously, I saw one of the backgrounds have some sort of boiling issue as it scrolled across, that's how little they care.
Then I realized that despite already costing fucking nothing to draw and animate, those are probably 3D fucking models. Because it isn't cheap enough slop yet.

the show started off with a little bit of a bite but it was quickly toned down after they knew a lot of parents watch the show with their kids. so it is just an "adult" cartoon that is people watch just for it's feel good nature

I would be getting just as much out of it if it were a group of pears lined up with voice actors pretending to be those pears

I've seen some shows before where the characters have basically no real expressions and just stand around and talk (and yet, somehow still have more expressions than Bob's Burgers) but it's forgivable because there's an actual plot being developed, as opposed to just jokes

Didn't always used to be this way. Like >>148976778 mentioned, the crew caught wind of fans watching with their young children and thus felt obligated to make their primetime adult cartoon "safe." That's why past a certain point it becomes rare to see an episode with a TV-14 rating despite it premiering alongside Family Guy.

The other issue is that the writers chose to go the "Simpsons route" and make Bob's Burgers run as long as conceivably possible. That means a sliding timeline, narrative retreads, and a strict adherence to status quo outside of a couple updated background details sprinkled about like Bob's tattoo or Louise's loft bed. Personally I'm less bothered by the characters remaining stagnant* and more by the characters no longer being visibly expressive and by Bob becoming increasingly submissive and soft-spoken.

*all except Gene. I HATE what Gene has become
