He went ahead and did other comics even when Thieves & Kings entered hiatus rather than branch out to do standard novels.

My LCS during college had to put up a sign during move-in week that said they didn't buy used comics. Apparently, parents from places with no readily-visible hobby shop would find out there was one in the town and drop in expected to cash out on their speculation copies.

Doesn't help that some stores literally line their empty wall space with "HOLY SHIT; SECOND APPEARANCE OF ELF WITH A GUN! $150". Regular people that find stacks of comics in their parent's garage just assume that one of them will hit paydirt.
