Women mentally abuse men all the time, while men tend to go the physical route
Men that get abused and manipulated just "nut up and shut up" about it because us men just facetank abuse until we die (hopefully not TOO early.)
Still remember when my sister broke up with her boyfriend because he hit her, only for us to find out later that she was constantly controlling and manipulating him to the point he was abusing drugs and alcohol. When called out on this, she deflected and blamed our dad because ??? "waah he wont let me smoke weed" and some other shit like that.

A few reasons, but it mostly depends on who's writing the show and who the censors are.

"California" isn't, it's an absolute black hole of high crime, poverty, fire, and drought outside of like three cities. The costs they'd have to deal with just importing water from the US would bleed them dry (haha) in a year or two alone.
Besides, if CA quit the US, those cities wouldn't be able to function the way they do and they'd probably have to expand out of CA just to survive, especially since that goofball Newsom would probably ban exports to the US or flood the "country" with immigrants day one.
