Can't speak for the Netflix animation but Nioh's version wasn't taken as an ideological statement. Also the persistent rumors that AC Shadows' original protagonist was Hattori Hanzo but then changed to Yasuke following George Floyd's death and the BLM riots didn't help.

it didn't receive "praise", it was just there. meanwhile assassins creed went and hired a "professor" who made a load of bullshit about yasuke and painted it as japan's black jesus and that he was better than any man who ever existed, and of course ubisoft was so happy about all that shit that they insulted anyone who probed them wrong until it was found out the guy who made all those claims was lying about everything, his books banned and he was expelled from japan's historical academy thing. this was exactly the same as when netflix claimed that Cleopatra was black according to experts (Cleopatra's actor grandma). and the whole country of Egypt, backed up by every political and historical institution called bullshit on it and denounced netflix of historical revisionism in favor of american wokeness.

Yusuke been a Black warrior in japan should be unique, on the first episode he already has to fight another black-man... and a Russian Werebear.

People wanted a more grounded story, so no one finished the anime.

Nioh pulled from history but was in no way making claims of historical accuracy, no one cared to scrutinize its version of Yasuke because he was no more ridiculous than anything else that was happening.

Asscreed generally aimed for historical accuracy, and claimed it in this case. Yes, it has the fictional assassin stuff, but it tries to weave it into the actual history in a way that it can plausibly say "this also happened in secret". What they did with Yasuke is not like having Da Vinci tinker shit for Ezio on the side, they genuinely believe (or want others to believe) the parts about him being an ornately armored super-samurai. So they took extreme liberties with his history, made him the first historical figure to be a protagonist, AND first to be non-native to his game's region. Doing all that in a time when gamers are getting increasingly fed up with the industry for exactly this sort of hamfisted activism was obviously going to go poorly.
