I think $900m is in play. This is close to the Barbie opening weekend. Obviously this will be more front loaded than Barbie since it's a fan IP, and I don't think it's getting a billion, but it's no wonder Zaslav is telling Gunn to get going on Wonder Woman and the Superman sequel, they know what they've got.

I look forward to the box office goblins insisting it needs to make the annual GDP of a midsized country when you factor in marketing.

Why wouldn't you factor in marketing as a cost?
It's not free.

lmao
if this shit can't break at least a billion then what's even the point of starting this new DCU

Zaslav already said the fate of the DCU depends on this movie. You Gunnjeets need to stop coping.

Reminder that MoS made $670 million back in 2013. That's $930+ million in 2025 dollars. If Supersaar can't even beat that it's over for Gunn's DCU.

I'll say it every time it comes up but Snyder fans trying to reclaim the Hindi stuff is so hysterically desperate
We've got a decade of Man of Steel's absurd popularity in India for reasons that are completely inexplicable but funny, versus two weeks of "No u!"
God only knows why the Snyder Cut and all that crap was so popular in India but the fact that it pisses you off so much is hilarious

The flash had the same pre sales and dropped like a rock on the 2nd weekend same as BvS. I would bet real money it won't make anywhere near 900 million. It will top off at 500 million if its lucky but will get way less. This has flop written all over it and Gunn is just talking shit to generate hype. All Gunn projects are in development and can be canceled like that. If they were confident in Gunn's DC universe they would had made another DC film in 2025 instead of only Superman. Its over. The Gunn DC univese is dead bury it

We only see it as decent because Joker 2 and The Marvels happened. They were BAD. Superman is tracking for more than twice the presales right now. Granted we don't know if the movie is any good so the second weekend will be interesting.
Get ready for Ramesh to tell me the movie is bloody bastard cursed shit and DC will be forced to restore Snyder CEO

Btw for reference The Flash's weekend 2 drop was 72.5%, which is unspeakably awful territory. Considering the Barbie team is leading the charge on Superman's sales I'm sure they're hoping to get that drop, which was only 42%
I don't think it'll be that low and I don't think it'll have nearly the legs of Barbie even if it opens big and is beloved, but with the presales data we have this movie should make money. Reception will be more interesting

production costs are fixed, at this date.
so the only number that these 'experts' can argue are not fixed and that they continue to increase as they argue their 'facts' with anonymous imbeciles (just like you) is by arguing that something nebulous (e.g. marketing) is actually $2B, not $500M like they originally argued, etc. etc.

>That's $930+ million in 2025 dollars.
$924,755,765.84 to be precise, which it may very well might not make but given that Minecraft did, you are arguing about something neither of us really knows with any certainty, so pointless and stupid (e.g. 4chinz in a nutshell).

As for the other two anons, Superman (as far as kicking off a universe and as far as WB is concerned) probably only needs to be a $300M domestic BO, ideally MORE - but at least at and better than Sinners - and only needs $650-$750 worldwide, which it will easily clear;
this will make it, at minimum, the most popular cape shit for 2025, since FF likely won't suddenly clear some $300M+ more than Thunderbolts or BNW with a cast of unknowns and even more negativity than even this Superman has managed, at least here and other important and real life social settings like twitter and YT.
That will be enough to satisfy WB suits. Obviously if it does better, great. If it clears less (especially functionally less) than Sinners domestic, yes, it will be seen as a loss and more than anything else, that would bother WB and impact the future of Gunn's plans and even his own future.

Sinners did well because of black people but flopped internationally and didn't do so great with other racial demographics. Superman doesn't really tick any racial demographic box and is a mostly a cast full of white people. That will definitely cut into its domestic numbers but its international numbers could be better because of that though.

Most of the only interesting stories done with Superman are either his origin or his death. You honestly can't do that much with the character that isn't about him finding himself or him saying farewell. I guess there's also generic superhero stories you could do with him like struggling with his secret identity or him facing a moral challenge like defending his no-kill rule. Otherwise though, not a lot else you can really do.

As a SEA monkey, I really like the cast of Gunn's Superman because it's so unapologetically white.
