Kiff is fucking sweet and her relationship with Barry might be the most adorable thing I've seen in many years. They are a perfect pair. I wish I had a friend like that.

they manage to balance her JUST RIGHT in a way that I feel like any other show would have fucked up. would have overfocused on her, made her too annoying.. It helps that she's feeble and weak and often miserable. has a lot of Mr. Burns on her.

a choice many cartoons have made since the beginning of animation, since they're so much funnier than women voicing women
that said, this cartoon is RIFE with confusing sexual feature mistakes. Basically every animal with a major dimorphic form gets done wrong. but in fairness, "Female boars" are really common in cartoons lately. even Stugo did it, and those people KNOW animals.

I love Kiff.

I'm pretty sure that kid talking about his "two moms who each had two moms" was just fucking lying. he's the lying kid who says shit to sound cool, and has only ever talked about his mom in the singular beyond that.

given how often this show subverts stuff and shows how clever it is, I was expecting someone to be like "also, you already signed the marriage license, so you're still married whether we do the ceremony or not, or whether or not a child is officiating"

anyone else think they really needed to establish more that Kiff's dad finds that guy annoying? he's only appeared like twice and one of those times he only interacted with Kiff and Barry.
Considering this is the show with KIFF IS KING YO continuity, I'd expect to remember this issue he had more strongly.

The only things I don't like about the second season vs the first is that it seems like they have a lot more "funny face freeze frame" gags, and that there seems to be more episode pairs where the one song is super phoned in and doesn't really rise to the level of actually being a song. You don't have to go full on Phineas and Ferb but it sometimes feels like the creators didn't actually want the show to be a musical. Which is fine, but it was sold as a musical and I love the songs from S1, so far the only standout song from S2 is "Welcome to my Mind"

Yeah their music started out very much in the same vein as phineas and ferb, and they seem to have run out of song ideas..
but i mean, Molly McGee also had PnF-lite tier songs, and that went to shit, so
Helen's song in this one felt pretty lazy, or at least it didn't need to repeat its lyrics, but lazy does suit her.

I actually really dislike the PnF/Molly McGee style where the songs are just sung as narration rather than being "diagetic". I don't mind only one song per two-episode segment, it's just insulting when something like the gag song from the hotel episode where Barry sings horribly was the only song for that week. I'm a big musical fan though so maybe I take it too seriously...

I kinda understand what you mean, but for most of us, standard musical scoring is dull as dishwater when it's not by rogers, hammerstein, or either of the sherman brothers. The kind you don't like is the antidote to that corny stuff, and it's pretty rare and refreshing.. the silly lyrics, singing about what you're doing as you do it, coming up with funky wordplay that isn't expected within the genre, being deliberately overly obvious to parody the norms of that song genre.. all that. sometimes it is diegetic, sometimes it's narration, iunno
though now there's three shows that did it, so... I suppose you could be getting tired of it.

i thought the episodes were both alright. not disapointing like the spoiler episode, but still decidedly in the bottom half of season 2 so far. althought that's not as bad as it sounds considering that i think the average season 2 episode so far has been better than the average season 1 episode. the first segment doesn't really half a lot to offer outside of helen being pathetic, which is a fun thing to watch for sure, but it really is the entire episode. the second segment is i think the first time an episode has had multiple concurrent plots, and i'm not sure they pulled it off the best, but it was still a good time, and i'd say the better of the two episodes.

we see both of them though. (presumably anyway, the one that actually looks like him isn't actually called his mom ever, but she's often seen next to the one who definitely is called his mom, and she both looks like reggie, and a drawing in reggie's room of him and his parents.)

Kimiko Glenn's performance as Kiff plays such a huge role in making this show as great as it is. That "MAMA" in the haircut episode might be the perfect encapsulation of the character's ability to be both hilarious and the cutest goober ever all at the same time
