You know a villain is poorly-executed when not even Gary Oldman can save him

i said in another KFP thread but the main issue is the fact we see so much of the villain. It makes sense with Thai Lung because he's integral to Tigress's growth and Po's ascension to dragon warrior. Not to mention how Lungs relates to Shifu who is master of both. In 2 and 3 we're shown the villain because if we didn't we'd have no reason to dislike them or even know who the fuck they are. Rather than being a mysterious threat gathering new weapons the peacock is just a bumbling retard who accepts death because he's too fucking arrogant and stupid to move 5 feet to the left. It's at least a bit better in 3 but Kai gets killed because he's too retarded and arrogant to just not trap the souls of warriors in Jade. Kai also wasn't strong enough to get Thai Lung's soul, that was notably hilarious how he went after oogway (a decrepit old turtle) and nobodies who only a kung fu fanboy like Po would recognize

It's so obvious that DreamWorks chickened out from making this villain sympathetic in any way after seeing that audiences sympathized a bit with Tai Lung

All things considered, Shen's parents were rather soft. They only banished Shen instead of giving him imprisonment. Plus, they also banished the wolves alongside Shen, so it isn't like he didn't have any company during his banishment.

Shen is integral to Po's backstory, also the entire point of his death is that he could have avoided it. Even with the prophecy he could have avoided it but he was the architect of his own destruction both literally and metaphorically which in his final moments he finally accepted after years of fighting it and found some form of last minute peace.

Shen was a victim of ambition and self fulfilling prophecies. Realistically if his parents actually supported their son in his endeavors instead of hiring a soothsayer at the first whiff of doubt in their child then the movie wouldnt have happened.

Shens parents saw him discovering a more practical use for gunpowder that would make their kingdom safer and stronger and instead of being happy about this they instead hire a fortune teller to mind rape him into commiting genocide, what did he even do for them to do feel the need to hire the soothsayer in the first place? Make a 9/11 joke at the dinner table? Honestly his parents were mega retaded for giving their still young son with a standing army a telling of his future, especially if they saw dark within him, this entire story never happens if shens parents actually parented.

i thought the second KFP was generally considered the best?

Whether shen cared about it wasn't their problem at the time, they were the rulers of their kingdom, it was their call on how shens technology would be used, the only thing shen had was wolves, with no industry to create his own cannons for personal use
