It's the same thing for Mystique, Destiny and Daken, they're "good people" because they're gay or bi and because they're mutants, and all the bad things they did don't matter anymore and writers don't bring them up. The same is broadly true for most mutant villains, even The Gorgon. Worse, Marvel REALLY wants their own Harley & Ivy and they've chosen Mystique and Destiny to be it, so they're trying to pretend that this is a beloved pairing everyone wants to see together, trying to pretend Mystique hasn't also banged a gorillion men, and around the time of their wedding story were even trying to pretend that they're wacky "be gay, do crime" characters and not murderous terrorists.

It really wasn't, it was an early example of Brevoort pushing something he knew fans hated, to deliberately make people mad. It existed just to block AND permanently taint the more popular Wanda/Vision pairing.

Keep in mind that there was no rape in that West Coast Avengers story though. The page Byrne drew implied it, the art and dialogue was changed to make it clear she was torturing him instead of doing something sexual.

There's a later story in the Wonder Man solo book where he hits Wanda, too. The pairing is cursed.

Superheroes typically get a free pass for things that happened when they weren't in their right minds for BIG DUMB EVENT STORY. You can't single Wanda out without also having to 'punish' every other hero who was thrown under the bus for an event. Put the blame where it belongs, with Bendis, Brevoort and Quesada for destroying her for the sake of having a plot device to break up the old Avengers and to get rid of the millions of NPC mutants, and also blame the retards who stuck Marvel with all those mutants in the first place.

Having to repress all memory of past characters actions because they're awful is just bad. Byrne fully intended wanda to rape wonderman and it was only a last minute edit to make it look more like torture that somewhat prevented it, but it still leaves that and the murder and genocide which everyone in universe also just pretends didn't happen.

At that point why even bother with event titles? Or with the comics at all and instead just watch the cartoons? Baggage free versions of the same stories but better told. The solution can't just be for the reader to pretend characters didn't rape and murder their friends 5 minutes ago.

I don't know if it was an editorial decision or his own but it had some logic. Wanda fell for Vison when he had Simon's brain patterns so theoretically Simon was supposed to be the same personality, although good luck trying to find examples. Near the end they both realized that it wasn't working romantically and mutually agreed to just be friends. It also looked like Wanda and Vision were in place to gravitate back to each other but then Bendis happened.

How the fuck did that Minecraft character get so popular with Mexicans? I don't even think the original artist sees anything from that side of the fanbase, it's like they co-opted her.
