I actually thought the animation for Kratos vs. Asura was good. I know a lot of people had problems with it, but I thought it was great.

Even if you disagree about Asura losing, given the power gap between the two it makes sense for Kratos to take little damage. It also put Kratos in some kind of a mentor or elder role to Asura, and let Kratos show how far he had come by defeating someone who had been down the same path as him. He wasn't just fighting Asura, he was TEACHING Asura. And I think that's very heartwarming in a way. That Kratos would take the lessons he learned and help someone who was just like him.

If this weren't a Death Battle I'm sure they would have ended cordially and taught each other well. The alternate ending is weird, even if heartwarming in its own way. It was nice to see Kratos reunite with his daughter, but it feels weird to have him just stand there and take that punch.

I haven't played Asura's game though (but after watching this fight I think I might watch a playthrough!) so I might be missing stuff but as a big GoW fan I thought they did Kratos justice and from what I saw they treated Asura with the utmost respect. What I hate about this hobby is that it often feels like I have to crawl inside the mind of some warped autism. The Ryuko match up question really nails that idea, how many characters feasibly make sense as match ups for her and then how many are actually within her striking range?
There are match ups that work for her, but people assume Kisaragi stats for Ryuko so she's in this super tenuous zone of barely 'planetary' where because of the nature of modern powerscaling causes her to be in the stomp or be stomped range for her opponents.
Villains? Homelander and Armstrong are way too far down the charts.
Heroes? Crona, Mewtwo, Shadow are either beyond her or have something esoteric that prevents her from succeeding.
And then there are the 'easier' match ups like Carnage where because of some specific one time comic is probably a solar system threat.

If you want to apply the god title to Asura then you’d have to apply it to all the Seven Deities as well, since they’re all the same. Asura is no different other in power than the fact his circumstances allow him to raise his wrath to insane levels, much more than the others, and also the fact that he was given the mantra reactor to prevent him from destroying his body when growing. I think the narrative works better if Chakravartin was considered the only “god”, since he specifically chooses Asura as his “heir” due to noticing his power, not because of any divine status. Asura is not “god of wrath” or “god of destruction”, I don’t think those titles would really fit him. At most I could call him the demigod of wrath but that’s about it.

To be honest, I feel like this is probably going to give Tom the win alone. It looks like a strong wincon in Wile’s favor but because Tom can either go to Hell and claim his lives back or literally break into the real world, he can escape the anti-looney gun’s blasts, steal it from Wile, and then use it on him since neither of them are actually capable of dying permanently, but since Wile has zero methods of circumventing the ant-looney gun’s effects in a specific way that Tom has, means that Tom can use it against Wile. Tom has always been cunning and resourceful enough to exploit obvious weakpoints so even without xianxia stuff, I can’t really see Tom losing this ine
