Dragons, sperms, and kuatos are undoubtedly stinky doodoo one-out-of-tens, but at least they're memorable, they seem like a plot that only Rick & Morty would do despite falling flat on its face trying. Hugh Jackman is an example of a zombie episode, nothing memorable happens, it's a nothing episode. But we've had four episodes in a row like that this season, after I'm done watching them I forget I watched it because the story is structured like "and then x happens and then y happens and then z happens" and the true momentum where "and because of that, x is a consequence, which causes y in response" never happens.
I don't know how to describe it other than the identity being wrong. I can walk away from bad Rick & Morty episodes thinking it was just a bad Rick & Morty episode, but season 8 so far, I walk away thinking I watched a boring Family Guy episode puppeteering as a Rick & Morty episode. Honestly, the quicksand gag in Valkyrick is the highlight of the season for me. (I love dumb shit like that) Otherwise, this season has felt very strange so far.
