>"I see the online things 'Who would beat whom?' — Homelander or Superman or fucking whatever ... and I’m like, 'This is the fucking stupidest fucking conversation' ... so then whoever would win this fight means that they’re the best? Because I’ll just go out and write God Man, who can destroy you with a wink ... But I didn’t want a Superman who could punch planets ... So he’s a little less powerful"
>"A lot of people are like, 'I like Batman better because he can actually be beat,' and I get that. So we have a Superman that can be beat"
Gun's Superman is Weaklingman.

He's right thoughbeit

I don't mind a Superman who starts off less-super but grows over time. He's constantly absorbing yellow sunlight, so it makes sense he wouldn't always be on the same level from when he started to later in his career.

Powerscale fags in shambles

Gun is just pointing out how power scaling knee caps a lot of potential for stories.
It has its place in online discussions but it's hardly the most important part of any story.

I'm pretty sure the same thing can be said for media like Dragon Ball or Invincible, the difference being that those shows kinda allow power scaling to take the stage since...that's how those writer's wanted to show progression and change.

Gun is trying to keep things interesting, naratively and visually.

Let's hope he delivers at least.

It also kneecaps it in terms of narrative. Sometimes for Superman it runs the risk of “i’m lecturing you and being self righteous because I was born way strongerer than you so you’re just a dumb chud”
Like those faygos on South Park who feel the need to represent everyone they dislike as the dumb fat kid and have their gay jewish female self-inserts beat him up to prove they’re right.

>a character can actually lose and has to overcome something

Oh no One Punch Man fags, what should we doooo?! This is like... exciting!

On the one hand, sure it takes away from the character if he's unbeatable physically, and your movie is all about fighting and not about Luthor trying to outwit Superman.
On the other hand, c'mon lmao. You KNOW the reason he's weak is actually because the white man needs to be the punching bag on the screen nowadays.

I love how you guys attack Gunn for this, while Timm and Dini did the same thing for Superman in the DCAU.

DCAU Superman was sandbagging on purpose.

That's not true. Sometimes, it's the naive blonde kid or a middle-aged manchild.

That only became a thing in the very end. STAS intentionally kept Superman underpowered

Comics Superman can be beaten while still keeping his imense power though. So why nerf him for no reason?

And how often does Batman lose by the way? There was Bane in the 90s but people act like Batgod doesn't walk off worse injuries most of the time.

Batman gets his ass kicked to hell every single issue.
…of his own books. He’s only unstoppable preptime batgod in the teamup books so the other superpowered guys will respect him.

Hell my first Batcomic was his N52 revival Secret City where Joker beats him until he’s toothless can no longer talk and can only crawl around because both his legs and arms got twisted into ungodly shapes

Never understood this sentiment.
Can't you just have him fight strong things?

Because it erodes the suspension of disbelief. Like, how is the world not a wasteland if multiple criminals are as strong as superman?

everything just comes down to turning white male role models that used to be powerful and masculine into weaklings and idiots so that girlbosses and negros can beatn them up and rescue them.

weird that this is only ever done to white men and never to black or female characters
but yeah totally no agenda there

nope. he just wants to beat down white men some more like the good pedo lefty he is
meanwhile all the female characters in the movie are going to be unstoppable girlbosses with no flaws or weaknesses who are all better then sups at everything .

Anonymous No.149037361 [Report]
He's not wrong. Stan Lee said something similar. The strongest is whoever the writer says it is because that's what they need for the plot.
That doesn't mean that we can't discuss that. Superman is obviously stronger than Batman... unless the plot needs Batman to be so.
