I feel like this image perfectly encapsulates what’s missing from the show nowadays and what made the original dynamic of the family so balanced. Jerry being the straight man, Beth being apathetic to it all, Summer as the grandchild who looked up to Rick with rose tinted glasses, Morty as the one who was begrudgingly strung along and Rick as the crazy drunk patriarch. Now almost all of those traits are gone in service of “character development” but it just leaves the show feeling neutered and empty. Every character is a snarky Rick-lite except for Jerry who no longer pushes back on Rick and is now just a punching bag for the whole family. I don’t even know what the fuck they’re doing with Morty, they flip flop between him being either as competent as Rick or as useless as Jerry depending on the plot for the episode. He doesn’t even get moments of him being the moral center for Rick anymore, he just goes along with everything and stands around like a background character. What a mess.

As true as this is for early seasons and would have worked better for stuff like the voltron episode they were going to have to change it at some point because executives started panicking that Rick and Morty didn't become Adult Swims own version of the Simpsons brand wise because of how hard the show fell off after season 3. The ending and all the random shit connecting together is in line with the adventure side of the series, but it's lacking the comedy.

The only S1 Rick I've noticed was Rick being delighted and intrigued that the blue men's butts are in the front where their dicks should be. Compared to our previous episodes, this one is probably the most traditional, going back to the more domestic set up (family has a problem, A plot is Rick and Morty going off to sci fi adventure while B plot is family in the house dealing with problem until Rick and Morty come back.)

The reason Buddhism doesn't get as much mockery, despite also being a pacifist religion, is that Buddhism is much more a philosophy than a religion. It is not about worshipping a god; you don't treat Buddha like the creator. It's Christianity with the divinity removed, so it's much easier for the agnostic/atheist crowd to digest. Also, Christianity is dominant in the West so obviously there's gonna be more jokes about it than Eastern religions.

Western 'Philosophy-Buddhism' is far more fringe to the actual practice of Buddhism than things like anti-muslim Riots.
Burma's population is 90% Buddhist and religiously motivated persecution of other religions, mostly Muslims, isn't fringe there, it's very much mainstream.

You can say what you want about what you think Buddhism 'really' teaches, like most religions it has thousands of pages of holy texts (And untold thousands more of conflicting interpretation by it's religious scholars) that can be used to justify essentially any behavior if you look hard enough.
The point is that how a religion exists in practice, i.e. how it's adherents actually act, is far more relevant than any personal reading of it's teachings.
