I think the rampant piracy of his work kind of killed his drive.
Which was mostly widespread because people were mad about him being a dickhead online. Not that people wouldn't have pirated his work regardless, but I think people were vindictively sharing the digital files to "get back" at him.

This is Mr. Weber's tragic flaw. He is incapable of not engaging in internet slap fights. If he had learned how to choose his battles wisely and otherwise stfu, he'd still have a career. Instead, he trolls. While I'm sure the rightwing stuff he spouts is at least partially part of his ideology, I think a huge part of the reason he goes all in with MAGA shit is because it pisses people off.

Sucks. He has some good ideas, and dude knows how to draw. He just doesn't know how to be an ambassador.

He's definitely still alive. He's been doing other comics and has recently been teasing that he's been continuing work on his animated pilot that was going to be produced by a mainstream network (I want to say Nickelodeon?), but was canned (the reasons for which vary depending on who you talk to).
Unfortunately his other comics don't have cute cowgirls in bikinis.

The Wild West aesthetic is cool as fuck and it sucks that we don't have much good contemporary /co/ material set in that world. LGG came close, but it doesn't seem like there's still steam behind that project.
With the popularity of stuff like Deadwood, Westworld, Red Dead Redemption II, Justified, etc, I would have thought we'd see more.

if I was him, I would just straight up post the whole comic and story up in one go then just leave.
he needs to learn the way of the haley comet, it would have sold well and even give him this type of mystic vibe too, so that when he engaged with the internet everyone would assume he is a weird troll.
his modus operandi should have been that, post the whole thing already completed and then post new stuff already completed after seemingly a long period of dormancy.

The Southwest is a criminally underrated setting. I've been trying to gather inspiration for a creative project, but there are very few /co/ related materials set in the southwest. I've found a handful of comics. VERY few shows. I've had better luck with novels.
It's such a fertile setting both location-wise as well as lore/mythology, and history. I wonder why more isn't done with it?
If you happen to have any more in your archives, I'd love to see what you've got.

Thank you for the bounty!!! Love me some Tigerlily.

The American Westerns are okay. They're fun if not a little predictable. Still, the first time I saw a Sergio Leone film, I 100% understood why people get so into Spaghetti Westerns specifically.

The only problem I have is that sometimes keeping films straight is difficult since there's so much crossover with actors, directors, names of main characters, and types of plots. After awhile, all the films start to get kind of mixed together in my head and I have a tough time remembering which ones I've already watched.
Anonymous No.149041129 [Report] >>149041188
>>149041100

I sort of like some of that old charm of having the same actors in different movies from old films. Is interesting how different they can be in one film and change their characters in the next (The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca and the Treasure of the Sierra Madre comes to mind.)

Then again sometimes the characters are really close in each film, like the The Man with no Name trilogy.
Anonymous No.149041188 [Report]
>>149041129
yeah, and sometimes the characters aren't related at all like the countless films featuring variations on Django, Sabata, or Sartana. Even the Man With No Name (who is subsequently named Joe in one of them) is not really related between films. Eastwood plays a similar character, but there's no actual continuity between films. The fact that there are very rarely actual sequels in Spaghetti Westerns took some getting used to (as did the fact that everyone is overdubbed...it can be a challenge finding the "best" audio version of a film).

But I do love seeing familiar faces like Lee Van Cleef, Franco Nero, Terence Hill, Giuliano Gemma, or Fernando Sancho pop up. When you see some of these Spaghetti Western greats pop up in the credits, you know it's going to be a good time.

It sucks that the interview where they talk about this is in a Daft Peñis/Dovendraw video. If you can handle his severely autistic speech patterns and pathetic attempts at humor (and weird propensity for holding up his hands like he's chef boyardee EVERY SINGLE TIME he cuts to a shot of himself on camera as if he's surprised that he's suddenly in the shot he planned and edited), then this has some interesting info about what happened. The animation is noteworthy for being better than most offerings around that same late 90s time period. Whether or not it's "good" is a subjective call.
IMHO, it's watchable, but it doesn't grip me the same way other western stuff does. I think the world of Long Gone Gulch is more imaginative, and Calamity Jane doesn't have the same sort of gritty drama that you'll find in the cinematography of Spaghetti Westerns. I'm not trying to compare feature length live action films to a flash in the pan animated episodes, but I'm specifically talking about the way scenes are paced and how the narrative unfolds. I wish Calamity Jane took more beats to focus on visual aspects. I get that they need to cram a story into the episodic runtime, but I think a couple of moments to set up scenes with focus on backgrounds or more artistic framing of the subjects could have pushed this show over the edge.

I'm also admittedly not super into this design of Calamity Jane and I kind of wish her character was a touch more tortured instead of being so cocksure. I think it would have created a more interesting dynamic.

there were images where she appeared to be possessed and floating. Hard to say if she was being controlled or if that's what she looks like when she's using magic. I kind of read her as similar to Cordelia in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Prudence Night/Blackwood in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She'd be kind of an antagonist mean girl, but when push came to shove, would team up with the MCs if they needed extra help for mutual benefit.

I've been trying to learn French and have been looking for comics and cartoons in French to work on my skills anyway, so honestly, that's a win/win.

It also took me down a wormhole of franco-belgian comics. Apparently there are quite a few that center around cowboys, native americans, and the wild west. It's strange that French comics and Italian films do so much work to further the lore, romance, and mystique of the wild west when Americans seem mostly ambivalent about it.
