China Secretly Made A New CG Tom & Jerry Feature: ‘Tom & Jerry: Forbidden Compass’

>This week in China, a quite mysterious and previously-unannounced cg-animated Tom & Jerry feature is world premiering and it appears to be made primarily for Chinese audiences.

Hollywood is now outsourcing the entire filmmaking process to China and making movies for Chinese audiences. Anyone working in the animation industry here in the states should start working on a career change ASAP. It's over.

i don't have the article now, but I remember back when Ne Zha 2 was on the news all the time, it inspired more Chinese animation and vfx jobs to open, and more people were becoming students.

If we get cartoons like Nezha without the communist nonsense then I don't mind.
Also they've been making exclusive stuff for China for a long while, I remember when the first Micheal Bay transformers came out they added some ad for some boxed milk, and for Iron Man they changed the story to some random Chinese scientist designing his suit.
Complete outsourcing seems to be the best bet right now due to the state of the industry.
I know that new Swat Kats revival is being animated in India.

If I was in the industry I know I'd be looking for an exit strategy. Disney and Pixar can't employ everybody. Dreamworks did mass layoffs last year. Illumination is very small. Netflix has cut back massively on animation content. etc, etc.

This isn't even new. India made Tom & Jerry exclusive content. Singapore made Tom & Jerry exclusive content. Japan made Tom & Jerry exclusive content. US is still making a full Tom & Jerry film on its own. Outside Tom and Jerry, Mexico made two Top Cat theatrical films.
There is nothing new here that hasn't been done the past decade

China's not North Korea, filmmakers don't have to obey strict doctrines. But there's a lot of awkward dialogue that doesn't translate well, lot of chest-beating nationalist nonsense and a very stale library of stories that can be adapted
