..is it me or does nobody ever wear armor or protection in zombie media. I am not asking for people to wear full plate armor but even a layer or two of well wrapped clothing would stop most bites breaking skin since humans have pretty meh mouths for biting cause of our mediocre bite force. Everyone seems to just go bare back.

Because most zombie media ends up being written by hacks making bad social commentary or other writers who want a generic modern backdrop to tell a very specific story. For the latter it doesnt matter and the former only ever comment on it to mock it and jerk off their particular OC. They'll show one guy in plate armor, likely making it unrealistically heavy because theyre proud of their retardation, then the guy falls over, gets mobbed, and the entire concept of even wearing as much as a leather jacket gets written off. Nobody seriously entertains a concept of zombie settings because then they'd be forced to admit one or more social truths that are uncomfortable to them or display actual satisfying traditional story beats like acts of heroism, both running contrary to their retarded ideas of nihilism

In CDDA a great mid game armor is a self made "survivor suit", it has middling protection but 100% coverage, meaning ALL attacks need to breach the armor to deliver any effects. Such as bite attacks from the hordes of normal zombies.

You know what's actually wild? how effective cardboard and duct-tape is against bites. seriously it's dog shit in terms of actual safe combat armor but it's built specifically for anti-biting. Hell a thick leather jacket is almost invulnerable to bites lol
