If it doesn’t go well, Norman Osborn will take the blame. It's a sad fate for one of the most recognizable and consistently strong characters in Spider-Man’s history. If it goes over well, Mephisto's involvement will somehow get the credit. As if he’s the reason people showed up to their local comic book stores to purchase the book.

I’m not here for Mephisto. I’m just watching it unfold and hoping the story holds up in a way that gives Spider-Man's archenemy the credit he deserves anyway. But I’m sure Marvel will count any success as validation of character choices that weren’t exactly universally loved by the fanbase.

They tend to stick to their version of the story, no matter what the fan response actually says and it's tiring.

If a character is in a poly relationship, he must deal with emotional consequences to avoid being labeled a Marty Stu. There should be moments of tension. There should be honest conversations. There should be conflict or doubt. If the partners agree on everything with zero effort, it's fake AF. That ain't how relationships work. If Peter does not face any challenges, the story lacks realism. If the partners only serve to show how great he is, it's shallow and unrealistic. Polyamory is not the issue here.
