No one likes Adult Maria because despite becoming an adult she LOST her breasts. Disgusting. And her entire personality being annoyingly in love with Alucard only made her annoying. Any time a female character's personality is Muh Male Character I'm In Love With she becomes annoying shit.

The only time this cliche never bothered me was Kyrie from Devil May Cry and that's because the writers understood "Hmm this bitch doesn't have any personality except sucking the male character's dick so lets DIMINISH her screen time and stop pretending she will ever amount to anything." That was brilliant and I love how in Devil May Cry 5 Kyrie got reduced to an Off Screen Phone Call you never see her on screen because she's a sack of nothing. That's how it should be done to female characters who don't have any characterization to be interesting.

Wish they did that to Starfire from Teen Titans stupid bitch only exists to suck Dick Grayson's dick. And I hate how DC is giving her a cartoon series even though she isn't interesting.

In the good ending Richter rescues all the damsels successfully and you get a render of Richter and all the women he rescued. I like to pretend that he never rescued Annette during the PSP remake to justify why he gets mind controlled in the sequel Symphony of the Night.

Banshee is at least cute though. They should've leaned more into the Banshee look for her actual costume though.

Livewire does look dogshit in MAWS but to be fair the OG design wouldn't have fit in with MAWS' style and art direction. That being said they could have done much better and making her brown certainly didn't help.

So many hack writers think the key to good characterization is to bombard the audience with useless factoids about the character even if none of it germane to the story. And this goes extra for world building. They're so in love with the idea of giving you countless useless details that they don't give any thought to the actual story or how the character is presented but since we told you his favorite food that makes him deep.

Young Maria is also a unlockable playable character in Portrait of Ruin but I'm sure they just reused her Rondo of Blood sprites, she's in Dracula X as well but only as someone you can rescue and isn't playable, overall young Maria gets more love than the adult one

I'm against race swapping characters for no reason, but what they did with Annette was unironically good. Annette brief role in the games is literally just "Richter's girlfriend who has been kidnapped by vampires", full stop. That works for the bare bones story of the games, but would make for a shitty show because there's nothing you can really do with that as a character, because she is defined by being a damsel in distress and with no other character traits. That would get very old in a show very fast.

Netflix Annette is a completely different character who happens to share the same name, which makes for a bad adaptation. But the new character they came up with for that name is a major supporting pillar of the show's story and themes, tying together the themes of exploitation and revolution by making a character be the bridge between the french revolution and the haitain revolution that occurred at the same time is just solid writing. She's still Richter's girlfriend, she just isn't defined by being a damsel in distress this time and she has her own shit she is doing in the story besides just be a Princess Peach to go fight Bowser for.

tldr: unfaithful adaptation, better character
