I fell completely for Tigen's character arc, I hated him passionately at first but by the end he was my favourite character. I really like how they are setting up the Princess girl and him falling off completely and having Tigen (hopefully) end up with Mizu, I legit didn't see that coming. I also really like how that princess girl is getting the vibe that she's maybe gonna become too radical and power hungry to make up for her lifetime of being a human trophy and she gives me the feeling she could be the final antagonist of the series. I like it a lot, but I wouldn't call it 10/10. It's a solid 8/10. I have some issues with the pacing and Mizu's healing factor, honestly. Always bugs me when wounds are somewhat unbalanced. Mizu gets pretty chopped up, but there are some Kurosawa-esque one-hit kills in duels. That's mostly a style choice I dislike, so it's up to you to decide, really.

My main complaint is that the whites of the show ought to have been Dutch, not British. Britain was nowhere near the powerhouse they would become in the late 18th to 19th century at the time this show takes place, the Dutch were the predominant seafaring traders in the 17th century, and they would eventually have the only foreign port when Japan was closed of.

I like it. Mizu was really fucking overpowered at times, especially the brothel episode, but I liked how flawed and miserable a character she was in spite of being essentially a god of death. Ringo was really fucking annoying to me, like a boring anime trope character that I just did not give a fuck about.
I'm not sure how I feel about Ebijah. I know he's a villain but they kind of went overboard with it. I get it, he's a sadist. You don't also to add on that he had his own illegitimate children killed regularly and collected their skeletons in his basement with their dead mothers. That pushes him over the edge of evil and into ridiculous.

Same here. Japan is so much more interesting, and how are we even supposed to continue both Mizu and Akemi's stories with them being so disconnected? They're going to feel like two completely different stories unless they can do an excellent job and weaving the themes of the two together somehow. And what of Taigen? I'm worried Akemi is doomed to be less interesting because Mizu likely took all of the most interesting side characters. At least seeing Fowler ad this Hannibal type stuck in the ship will be interesting. I'd love to see Mizu trying to investigate her path further and unravel the whole thing for us
