Sonic didn't become "autistic" until the 00s era was analyzed. Between Japs (autistics) taking over the brand and stuffing it full of shounen and JRPG tropes, Deviantart being trendy to mock, CWCs rise to infamy, that was an entire shift

In the 90s Sonic wasn't seen differently than any other game hero, he was just the cool one while Mario was square

The only time this series has ever became that way was with 06 and Shadow when they jumped the shark. Everything else is pretty lighthearted yet action focused.
