Did you read it all? It's not confusing, he drew his dad and his buddies as mice during the Holocaust and it was the first comic he drew his dad actually liked, he showed it to his holocaust buddies and they all liked it and gave Art notes on their experiences. Art started bringing a tape recorder when he visited his dad and getting him to talk about his experiences in Auschwitz and that's Maus. Along the way Art explores his own psychology, weird feelings being compared to a sibling that died long before he was born, dealing with his mom's suicide.
