Where the hell is the government in this show? Ain't no way Steven could go under the radar this long without a army coming to his home and taking him and the Gems in custody.

the gems had been around for thousands of years prior to the american governments existence. they must have figured that problem out very early.
that or it's the i vader zim phenomenon where the weird supernatural stuff just flies under the radar because normal people are so oblivious and self absorbed. it should jave been hard to miss the whole fucking ocean getting sucked up or the giant glowing eye exploding though

On the one hand, it's simpler and refreshing at times to have ayys visiting Earth with little to no gov shit getting in the way of the story - like Bayformers. On the other hand, too much shit is going in SU for there to be no man in black dispatched to Beach City.

Dewey was incompetent (like most cartoon mayors) and was incapable of handling pressures in situations and Nanefua work with Steven to keep civilians out of harms in case of a Gem invasion. I'm talking about the Big Government, one that takes something like massive alien spaceships in the sky or a giant cluster giant capable of destroying the planet when it emerge, also when The Cluster was about to form it caused earthquake, you can't convince me that those weren't being feels all over the world, those weren't natural earthquakes.

The gems have been around for a looong time they probably are the ones that helped the humans form a goverment.
For example Homeworld has a trial system and you could say it's a coincidence and trials are just some natural thing orrrr you could say that the gems are the ones that taught humans about trials and based it off the ones they had back in homeworld.
That's just one example tho they probably are the reason earth has a lot of things that homeworld also happens to have (like a government).
