I think what that scene showed, in addition to the rest of the episode, is that jax is actually more stable than rags. Rags is literally losing it during the episode and showing she's not capable of rationalizing her situation. She even throws out thing about jax's friend, on purpose even if she did try and walk it back. Meanwhile, jax is shown to self awareness about his behavior and even thinks about others, genuinely.
