The reason why Pomni starts to vibe with Jax more than Ragatha is because despite Jax being an obnoxious dick, his suffering and pain is on display in how loud and obvious he is about how he abuses others, how he presents himself, and how he responds to power being taken away from him. In previous episode she, while being drunk, had blurted out that she finds Gangle annoying whenever the latter is wearing a comedy mask - hinting that the whole motherly approach isn't genuine and serves as Ragatha's own mask of sorts. In the newest episode it becomes crystal-clear that she wants to push niceness and kindness onto everyone else as means of coping about growing up in an abusive household before arriving in a Digital Circus.

Personally, I find it annoying whenever 'nice' people put 100% of themselves into ensuring niceness among their acquintances, because it often means that they themselves are empty and, to mask that emptiness, they always want to create a buzz around them rather than to deal with whatever is eating them from the inside.

And Ragatha isn't even the only character with a similar problem. Ever watched "Wander over Yonder"? Titular space hobo would - at times - cling to helpfulness and niceness so badly that it would actually damage and impede the lives of others, as he would keep trying to help even if it was either unnecessary or downright counterproductive to do so.

So lemee see if I understood Caine's plan here, since he was aware how a lot of the cast members from the previous Ep were struggling in different ways when working at the restaurant especially since Gangle took charge, his Ai interpreted this as "I need to be the one who filters out the adventures up to an acceptable standard" even when everyone during the group huddle said it was "acceptable" which isnt technically correct they enjoyed the little that was good like the bonding moments during closing shift but most of the time they were miserable. So Caine is thinking "what do you mean you enjoyed the suggestion box you all got failing grades at the end of that adventure? You're suppose to gradually get more accepting of the adventures I put you thru."

Even with the suggestion box taking lead for this Ep, I can still kinda see Caine's problem with this since theyre not bonding with the adventure they're bonding with each other. The redundancy comes from going on the adventure itself which means they could just do exclusively in house adventures but to Caine this is an issue. The "hubworld" of the circus is treated less like a destination and more like a "lets review everything that you did wrong." building. Most of the time they barely get to even explore the circus and the closest they come is when one of the suggestion box adventures was "lets see the outside of the circus but not actually go too far away from the Circus."

So Caine's issue is he feels like the circus residents cant be bonding unless adventures are involved and the Suggestion Box is making him feel redundant since even these adventures arent really proving his "theory" to be true and how they could just do what Zooble does all day, which is nothing, and experience the same amount of happiness. This implies that Caine is his universe's version of Glados

There's nothing fake or insincere about actively putting effort into trying to be kind and considerate to others. The idea that being mean to people is the only way to be "real" or "honest" is just a cope by assholes.

Caine created a scenario where Pomni looked for a fake exit where opening the exit forced her into the void, a concept we've not seen since the pilot unless the void is another proof of concept that is just a smokescreen behind where all the NPC models and sets are being placed inside of.

It's not bad per se, but people in the circus are mixed on Ragatha.
At the end of episode 3, Pomni was thankful for how positive and welcoming she'd been the entire time.
However, I think everybody else wonders how genuine that positivity is, and I think Pomni's starting to see her through that lense.
Does Ragatha want a friend, or a little teddy bear to dote on and squeeze and get affirmation from?
Can you really be friends with someone if you hide all the bad parts of yourself from them?
In a way, she's keeping people at arm's length just like Jax, creating a shield around her actual feelings.

This episode was pretty bad. I don't think these people are capable of writing a good story. Do they really have the luxury of these "waste of time" segments like the intermission bit? Wouldn't it be better to set up and pay off one single core theme per episode instead of these major setups that don't seem to be going anywhere? Think about this from the Doylist perspective - Gangle wasn't going to get a focus with Pomni when she is the POV character and Gangle just had her focus episode. This was setting up Ragatha/Jax conflict through Pomni's eyes.

Gangle's getting emotional support from Zooble and to some extent Pomni, and genuinely doesn't seem as bothered by Jax picking on her as Ragatha or Zooble are, which makes sense because Zooble's protective of Gangle and hates Jax, and Ragatha hates Jax and wants to be protective of Gangle but only knows how to be performatively positive. Gangle can tell it's not real support.

Pomni's perspective on Gangle is more limited, and one of the weaker inter-character relationships in the show. There might be some element of "I've never seen her actually get mad at him" at play in the way Pomni sees Gangle and Jax's interactions. As of episode 5 we've established a dynamic of Gangle (at Zooble's prodding) teasing Jax back and enjoying it. Jax isn't holding a grudge for episode 4 like people were expecting and goes back to normal as soon as he gets out of the maid outfit. If there's a conflict involving Gangle at this point, it'll probably be somebody frustrated that Gangle's not mad enough at Jax. Gangle's primary conflict so far is internal, not with Jax, and it seems resolved about as well as can be expected after episode 4.

...Maybe that's Ragatha's next move. Try and push Gangle to be angrier at Jax than she really is (maybe try to do with Gangle what she thinks Jax is doing with Pomni), and it drives a wedge between Zooble and Ragatha while pushing Gangle away.

There are so many ways Ragatha could isolate herself further. What fun!

I thought it was funny how it started off with Jax's first two worlds involving shooting rhino Gangle and having her blow herself up because it felt like payback for the last episode. I wasn't expecting the reveal of not just Gangle being a masochist but Jax actually caring about her openly and implying he's been singling her out like he does because she likes it. It was also funny she gets him back in the same episode with this maid outfit, it's pretty bold of her even if zooble probably convinced her to actually do it. But notice he doesn't stay mad at her for long.

This is all Ragatha's fault. She comes from wealth, and her fortune funded this program. Not only did Ragatha help create the circus in an effort to escape her unfulfilling existence in the real world, but she tricked people into testing it in an effort to force people into becoming her friends. Her abandonment issues created this digital hell. Ragatha's toxic positivity isn't just a coping mechanism to get through each day, it's a sad attempt to force people to socialize/like her. I think there's an argument to be made that none of them are real. MAYBE copied from living people. They can't have their minds altered, but somehow they possess few distinct memories. If they were people hooked up to machines for years, either the experiment is illicit and someone would be looking for them, or they're in some kind of induced coma where meaningful brain activity wouldn't be occurring.
