Its a simple reality of length to adaptation. You cannot adapt an 80 hour game to a 2 hour movie without cutting 78 hours of it. Thats just how math works. Now, the good news is that most games don't have 80 hours of story in that 80 hours of game, so that makes it easy to cut a lot of that time. But so long as they have more than 2 hours of story to cover in there you're still having to cut shit. Games can afford to tell parts of their story or explore parts of their world and character in immersive, roundabout ways a little at a time and with sidepaths and shit. Movies don't have time for that, they have to stay focused on the main plot or it becomes a confused mess. They don't have time for anything else.
But something with a longer runtime, like a show, might.

Everyone had low expectations but the movie was fire when the shouted “Mortal Kombat!!” song started just like the video game commercials.
The whole movie was cheesy and fun you had to experience with a packed theater crowd to enjoy.

Depends on the genre, honestly. Your average first person shooter? EASILY fits into 2 hour movie, because you just cut it down to the best action scenes and thats more or less the plot.

JRPGs, however, would usually struggle to fit themselves into a film without massive cuts just because their story is so sprawling. You've spend 45 minutes just introducing us to the major characters and you have not even left the starter zone yet, there are 6 more hub cities and 2 other continents in this game before you ascend to the Divine Netherworld to fight god.
