Good to see more ACTUAL witness accounts of people who lived there for years give similar accounts that contradict what Tristan says and aligns with what people were saying about him on the koth subbreddit. The ftm is such grifter cunt making it seem like she was married to Joss for years when they got married recently and that the neighbor just decided to shoot him on the first day of pride month.

>25¢ a month
Fuck that

>Jonathan Joss had become a source of fear for his neighbors on Dorsey Street.
They accused him of making threats and brandishing pitchforks, tomahawks and other weapons.
>Joss, a Native American from San Antonio who identified as gay, had a once-successful career in show business. He’d voiced John Redcorn on the animated series “King of the Hill,” played Chief Ken Hotate on “Parks and Recreation” and appeared in “Tulsa King.” But at home in San Antonio, Joss was unraveling.
>His career had collapsed, and his behavior was increasingly erratic as he clashed with other residents in his far South Side neighborhood. His house, which had fallen into disrepair, was destroyed by fire in January. The struggle between Joss and his neighbors ended in gunfire at 215 Dorsey St., where his home once stood. Joss, 59, whose legal name is Jonathan Joss Gonzales, was shot and killed on June 1 after he and husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales — who were living elsewhere at the time — stopped by the property to pick up their mail.
>Jonathan Joss had angry encounters with neighbors. Here is video of two such incidents.
In 16 months, the span of SAPD’s available call log records, police responded to more than 70 calls involving Joss or his home, ranging from noise complaints and mental health disturbances to fires and gunfire.

>Their former neighbor, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was arrested and charged with murder. Officers said Alvarez, armed with a rifle, confessed at the scene, but Alvarez’s attorney has said his client “maintains his innocence.”
>Gonzales, 31, and others in San Antonio’s LGBTQ+ community have insisted Joss was killed in part because he was gay, and that his death was a hate crime. At a vigil hosted by Pride Center San Antonio a week after Joss’ death, the actor was remembered as kind, funny and talented, and some speakers dismissed reports of his erratic and aggressive behavior.
>But Joss’ neighbors — and his ex-wife, Laurie S. Park — say the public tributes tell only part of a complicated story. They say Joss’ death was the result of a long-simmering feud with neighbors that worsened as Joss struggled in his career and began to use drugs, and as his mental state declined.
>“It’s like this dance that they had, and why this guy snapped,” said Park, who finalized her divorce from Joss in 2023. “After years of shouting matches, Jonathan walking up and down the streets with pitchforks and axes, threatening them... hostile interactions.”
San Antonio police arrested Joss once in one of their many service calls to the neighborhood.
>To reconstruct the events leading up to Joss’ death, the San Antonio Express-News reviewed police reports, court filings, media interviews, social media posts, videos, images and city code enforcement documents, and conducted interviews with neighbors and public officials.

>Neighbors said officers told them they couldn’t intervene in the disputes unless someone was injured or killed. Without evidence of immediate danger — and with Joss declining mental-health assistance from police — officers had limited authority to intervene.
What the fuck? Property destruction, public nudity, firing a gun at your wife whole she slept and even *throwing petrol over people and threatening to set them on fire* aren’t arrestable or at least detainable offences on mental health grounds in burgerland? You can just say
>nah, I’m good thanks
and the authorities can’t lock you up? Guy was a state, sure, but he should have been in a secure fucking mental institution getting help. There’s really no way the authorities can lock someone up for this shit without someone dying or being injured?

>Joss lived for years on Dorsey Street, which is in a working-class neighborhood near the Mission Flea Market.
>Several of his neighbors say that while they rooted for Joss to succeed in his television and movie career, they also endured years of his threats and bizarre behavior.
>Pride Center San Antonio built a memorial and held a vigil and Community Call for Justice for actor Jonathan Joss at Crockett Park on June 8. Pride Center San Antonio built a memorial and held a vigil and Community Call for Justice for actor Jonathan Joss at Crockett Park on June 8.

>“People think he’s a hero because he’s an actor,” said Alejandro Ceja, who lives on Dorsey Street and is a relative of the man accused of killing Joss. “They believe the shooting was a hate crime, but they don’t know what we went through. They didn’t live here. We were afraid — all the time.”
>Ceja insists his family isn’t homophobic, saying they have gay relatives whom they love and support.
>Anthony, another longtime neighbor who asked that his last name not be used because he fears retaliation, said he didn’t witness any homophobic behavior toward Joss. He said Joss openly struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and mental health problems.
>Joss often kept his neighbors up late at night with loud chanting, banging pots around bonfires and shouting threats, he said.
>“He’d run around the neighborhood in his Speedos, jogging and yelling across the street, sometimes cheerful, sometimes angry,” Anthony said. “One day, he’d wave and say, ‘Hey neighbor!’ And the next, he’d be cussing people out or screaming, ‘Call the mayor! Call the police!’ at passing cars.”

>A 20-year-old neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said she once saw Joss naked in the street on her way to school. “There were a lot of kids out there,” she said.
>San Antonio police responded to more than 70 calls related to Joss over 16 months. The calls ranged from complaints about noise and Joss exhibiting erratic behavior to emergency calls about gunfire.
>That doesn’t include any complaints about the actor made to police before 2022. An SAPD official said calls prior to that year were not available in the department’s system.
>Some calls involved allegations that Joss had damaged neighbors’ property. Multiple neighbors alleged that Joss damaged their fences with his Hummer. On Dec. 18, a neighbor reported that a section of her chain-link fence had been knocked down overnight.
>Neighbors also accused him of throwing trash or bricks into their yards and brandishing weapons. “He had a machete he’d run around with, a tomahawk he’d throw at telephone poles,” Anthony said.
>At the vigil a week after Joss was killed, his husband sat on a sidewalk and thanked the crowd of friends, family, fans and LGBTQ+ and American Indian community members for their support. He said he and Joss both battled mental illnesses before alluding to Joss’ disdain for fences.
>There's no longer a house on Jonathan Joss' property on Dorsey Street, after a fire gutted the home and it was demolished. Neighbors say they endured years of threats and erratic behavior from the actor before he was shot and killed on June 1.

>“If you weren’t a fence, my husband wasn’t a threat to you,” he said. “But if you were a fence, you were probably going to get torn down — one way or another.”
>Police labeled many of the 911 calls about Joss as “disturbances.” But neighbors said many of his actions were more dangerous than that term suggests.
>One neighbor — Gilbert Arias, a home remodel contractor — told the Express-News that he called the police on Joss four times from 2021 to 2024. He said Joss threw trash into his yard, threw wine on his house, drove his Hummer into his mailbox, and damaged his fence and front gate.
>Arias said the most violent incident occurred in 2021 when his employees were building his house on Dorsey Street. He said Joss threw gasoline at the workers and threatened to set them on fire. He then set the fence on fire and yelled vulgarities, threatening to call immigration authorities to deport them, Arias said, adding that he called police.
‘Just an act’
>There were also incidents involving guns, crossbows and knives, according to police reports provided by the San Antonio Police Department. The department released eight such reports.
>Late in the evening of May 24, 2024, officers were twice dispatched to Joss’ home after reports of gunfire. Police arrived to hear shots and music blasting from behind the property, but were unable to make contact with Joss.
>On June 8, 2024, about one year before Alvarez allegedly shot and killed Joss, the two men had an altercation. About 6:40 p.m., officers were called to Dorsey Street to investigate a disturbance allegedly involving a knife-wielding Joss. But officers on the scene didn't find a knife on Joss, according to the report.
>Later that night, Alvarez reported to police that Joss was harassing him, walking outside his home with a crossbow and using racial slurs, according to an incident report.

>Later that night, Alvarez reported to police that Joss was harassing him, walking outside his home with a crossbow and using racial slurs, according to an incident report.
Alvarez told the officer he had made multiple reports about Joss harassing him and his brother, Alejandro Ceja. Alvarez had video of Joss in a vehicle, slowly circling his home, he told police.
He said that every time officers left after investigating a complaint about Joss, the actor became antagonistic again, telling him that “he was coming for him,” according to the police report.
Joss told police he had just been trying to talk to Alvarez about their dogs fighting.
>An SAPD officer arrested Jonathan Joss, pictured in a booking photo at the jail, on a warrant for a prior criminal mischief charge, according to a police report. It was his only arrest for calls to Dorsey Street, according to records.
>The officer said in an arrest affidavit that Joss was the suspect in several criminal investigations — "including violent crimes" — sparked by Alejandro Ceja and other nearby residents. The officer said Ceja shared several videos of Joss’ behavior.
>In one video, Joss is seen screaming obscenities and kicking the wooden fence with the intent to damage it, then breaking the fence with a hammer, according to the affidavit.
Ceja also showed the officer repairs and patches he'd made to the fence from past incidents, according to the affidavit.
>When the police were called, Joss often told officers it was all “just an act” — and eventually they’d leave, Anthony and several other neighbors said. Joss' ex-wife alleged some officers would ask the actor to sign autographs before departing.

>Neighbors said officers told them they couldn’t intervene in the disputes unless someone was injured or killed. Without evidence of immediate danger — and with Joss declining mental-health assistance from police — officers had limited authority to intervene.
>San Antonio police officials told the Express-News an officer with the department’s San Antonio Fear Free Environment program maintained regular contact with Joss and neighbors for over a year, supported by the department’s mental health unit.
>Police officials said they couldn’t provide additional information due to federal privacy laws. However, Park, Joss’ ex-wife, said he was twice detained for mental-health evaluations and that she saw him use methamphetamine. A law enforcement source close to the murder investigation told the Express-News the same. The long-running series of disputes made for a volatile environment, neighbors say — and it’s also why some of them dispute the contention that Joss’ shooting was a hate crime.
Hate-crime allegations
>The claim that Joss’ shooting death was a hate crime motivated by his sexual orientation first came from his husband. In a social media post the day after Joss’ death, Gonzales alleged that he and Joss endured threats and homophobic slurs, and suggested that neighbors might have set the fire that gutted their home. But Joss had said shortly after the January fire that he had left a grill lit inside the house before the blaze broke out.
>Gonzales said he and Joss reported repeated threats from neighbors to law enforcement, “and nothing was done,” Gonzales wrote. “Throughout that time, we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship,” he said. “Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.”

>Gonzales also said that moments before opening fire on Joss, the shooter had shouted “violent homophobic slurs.”
The day after the fatal shooting, the SAPD’s public information office said there was no evidence the killing was a hate crime.
>Three days later, after an intense backlash from LGBTQ+ groups, Police Chief William McManus walked back that statement during a news conference, saying it was “way, way, way premature.”
Neighbors on Dorsey Street, however, say police officials got it right the first time. “It had nothing to do with who he was married to,” Ceja said. “It was years of threats.” Anthony also said the disputes between Joss and Alvarez had nothing to do with Joss’ sexual orientation.
>“They fought physically before,” Anthony said. “Alvarez even told another neighbor, ‘Me and this guy are going to kill each other one day.’” He said the conflict was going on while Joss was still married to Park. “Tristan wasn’t even living there when the worst of the feud began,” he said.

>Park, 66, a retired city of San Antonio public works employee, said she and Joss met through mutual friends and dated for about a year before they got married. She said they were happy at first, but Joss’ behavior became more erratic and dark. Much of his anger was aimed at the people who live on Dorsey Street, she said. “He would terrorize the neighborhood,” she said. The coronavirus pandemic and a strike by the Screen Actors Guild meant fewer acting jobs, which exacerbated his stress and depression, she said.
>“He had no direction, no income. It was the loss of identity,” she said. “That was when things started to turn.”
>Joss also suffered injuries in falls from horses on film sets, one of which likely caused a concussion he was never treated for, Park said. His use of meth also contributed to his decline, she said. She said Joss dropped about 70 pounds and his teeth fell out because of his use of meth use, she believes. She said he suffered “psychotic breaks.” Joss was never diagnosed with a mental health disorder because he was reluctant to see doctors, she said.
>Park said one incident in particular still haunts her. She said Joss woke her early one morning, asking if she wanted lemonade. After pointing out it was 3 a.m, she went back to sleep. She said the next thing she remembers, she was awakened when Joss fired a pistol into the headboard above her. “I got up and threw some clothes and my phone in a garbage sack,” she said. “I got in my car and left.” A judge granted a divorce on Oct. 16, 2023. “He went from being the love of my life to someone I didn’t recognize,” she said.

That's the end of it, I hope this shines a better light on Joss's character and the motive on his murder

Excluding I believe Florida unless they're caught in the act of a different crime you can't detain people on mental health grounds without a court order, which naturally requires a trial. It's complicated and messy and unfortunately causes a LOT of repeat offenses because dipshit judges play soft and let clear risks go free

It’s not, unless you want to live in a world where everyone acts like a gangbanger. Death isn’t a proportionate response to property damage or verbal threat, there’s a reason deadly force is generally only permissible if you believe your own life is in imminent danger.

Those builders he threw petrol on and threatened to light on fire though? They’d have been well within their rights to light him up.

Well, yeah. But if it’s ruled as self defense, then he’s not dying for being an insufferable piece of shit neighbor who got shot for being annoying. Self defense is only determined when the killer’s life was in immediate danger from another aggressor, and killing the aggressor was a necessary means of defense to preserve his own life.

So then he’d’ve died for threatening another guy’s life, and the being a shitty neighbor part is a separate thing that he still doesnt deserve to die for.

My neighbors set my lawn on fire last month because one of them left their lit grill unattended and just drove off someplace for who knows how long. Luckily my other neighbors rushed out and beat the fire, but it coulda gotten nasty if it spread to a building. They’ve also broken glass windows and punched holes in the wall in our shared hallway, and had the police out here a couple times to settle some kinda domestic disturbances and to pick up their loud tweaking junkie cousins. Probably other annoying or dangerous shit I forgot.

I don’t like having shit neighbors and I sorta wish my landlord would evict them for being bad tenants so I could stop having to live with their bullshit, but it’s not like I want them shot. I just wish somebody would teach them basic ass common sense like regular fire safety and garbage bin etiquette and that they’d get their shit together well enough to actually listen.

If a problem cannot be resolved peacefully and no one wants to do anything about it then ultimately it’s the only way. The police could have done something, they didn’t, Joss didn’t want to stop or get help, everyone was getting desperate, so in the end these are the measures that were taken. If the law does not do its job then it’s up to the individual/community to take matters into their own hands.

I don't like how around the middle of the series, possibly on Jonathan Joss's suggestion since he understandably wanted the character to remain relevant after the affair, they started having several episodes about how ackshully John Redcorn is the better father than Dale and gives Joseph wise advice and also taught him to tie his shoes and ride a bike so really he's more of a close family friend/wise mentor than anything. Even though the early seasons make it clear that Joseph barely knows him and wants nothing to do with him. Dale was never portrayed as a great father but before that point it was presented like he was probably at least capable of basic parenting, even if Nancy was truly the one in charge.

And like those episodes are funny so if you're just watching for the comedy it's not something you'd even think about, but if you do give a shit about the characters you realize it kind of did a disservice to Dale and Joseph's relationship by "subtly" suggesting Redcorn should've just had custody all along

Guys like him are in and out of jail, maybe seeing some 5 year stint in prison for a violent non-fatal crime at most, and then are straight back on the streets slamming booze and smoking dope. Eventually, the cops either drop him off somewhere else, or they stop taking calls involving him entirely. Take it up with your local municipal government if you don't like it, they'll tell you to go fuck yourself, they got money to embezzle+launder and white supremacist/mexican meth dealer bribes to take.
