Legitimately, how did this end up so badly? How is this the final product? Don't they spend a few years on each movie to make sure the story works before they make the film?
Lightyear blows my mind with how terrible it is because it did not have to be. All they needed to do was make a Buzz movie like the Star Command cartoon. Just a fun sci-fi space adventure comedy movie. I've heard that some people at Pixar hated that cartoon, but if Lightyear is what they thought Buzz should ACTUALLY be like, I just don't understand.
>boring as fuck story entirely taking place in the most drab, uninteresting sci-fi setting you've ever seen
>takes a character whose entire point is to be "the coolest spaceman toy ever" and makes him a boring stick in the mud
>cast of complete nobodies that pales in comparison to the crew of BLoSC
>Zurg isn't even a character, just Buzz from the future with a dumbass throwaway gag about robots not pronouncing his name right
>Stupid fucking robot cat that only exists to sell toys and be this movie's "funny mascot", even though Buzz should've been the toy they were trying to sell. Instead he sucks until the end when he's given his suit.
It's just a complete failure of an idea that should've been a slam dunk. It's not like you couldn't make an entertaining Buzz-centric movie. There was an entire cartoon that did just that. Pixar was outdone by tv writers and South Korean sweatshop animators.
>>149143973 (OP)>visually unappealing >no Tim Allen>forgettable cast of characters>no BLoSC nostalgia appeal>retcons original Toy Story lore>they lesbian stuff stirred just enough ruckus for chuds and third worlders from watching thisThis movie was for no one.
>>149144262>This movie was for no one. That's why this whole thing is so confusing. Who kept approving what they were doing? Why did nobody try to change the direction? This movie has no audience appeal and that's supposed to be the entire point of making a movie.
>>149143973 (OP)Instead of advertising exciting space adventures, Disney decided to advertise how gay the movie was. Disney's main target demographic angry soccer moms don't like faggots.
>>149143973 (OP)the year 2006 fundamentally damaged Pixar, and the company has been on an ever-accelerating downward trend since.
We could've had epic galactic-scale warfare to take down the evil emperor Zerg, hellbent on domination. Sick visuals, infiltrate the enemy stronghold and return home a triumphant hero.
Instead we got:
>Oh no a plant vine has my leg, i hope a strong woman saves me!
>Gay niggers kissing
>Stuck on Dustbowl dirt planet entire movie, bad visuals
>Zerg is just evil Buzz from future
>Rainbow energy crystal
The setting, the characters, and premise may have been not terrible if they didn’t become stuck on some random planet for the ENTIRE fucking movie.
I genuinely believe this was meant to be a completely original sci-fi story that they shoehorned Buzz into because they were afraid of it flopping
The whole concept of it being "the movie Andy saw on his birthday" feels like a lazy bandaid because the movie itself doesn't feel like a 90s sci-fi movie at all. If that were the pitch from the beginning. I feel like they would have gone the extra mile to make things look dated
>>149143973 (OP)I can almost hear the script meeting where some dumpy bluehair with too much authority snidely remarks that a movie about a straight white man going on space adventures in 202X is boring and overdone. Which is how the whole thing ended up being about Buzz's failure as a self-obsessed loser who needs to learn to stop and recognize the good stuff he's got around him (brown people)
the movie was great, I just don't relate to old people and Taika Waititi trying to be funny.
>>149143973 (OP)>Could've just adapted Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. >This was the movie Andy supposedly watched despite none of the woke stuff existing back then thus rewriting history for an audience that only represents 10 percent of society. >The gay kiss scene was removed and then restored but removed in some theaters and was only a quick second so anyone barely paying attention to the film would even notice unless they were focused. They could've made something great, a gritty Buzz Lightyear animated film would've been really cool.
>>149144262>retcons original Toy Story loreimagine saying this with a straight face
>>149143973 (OP)This movie made me want to take everyone who had a hand in making it and then chop off their hands so they can never have a hand in anything ever again.
>>149143973 (OP)>>Stupid fucking robot cat that only exists to sell toysWhat's funnier is this movie is a flop in-universe and out cause only buzz, zurg, and the little green men the only toys on shelves like this is supposed to be the movie Andy watched that made him get a buzz toy Andy didn't want a Mr socks(?) (I think that's the cats name) toy he only wanted buzz and the aliens. Speaking of the aliens it's weird that they weren't in the movie I don't even think that movie has aliens imagine a space movie without aliens like if they wanted a cute marketable character to make merch of they were right there they're the original minions
>This is the big movie that Andy watched.
>Don't make it a space adventure epic ending with Buzz facing down Zerg with some Flash Gordon-ass theme playing.
>BUZZ. BUZZ LIGHT-YEEEAAAARRR...!
>Throw that all away for millennial villainy again.
The lost potential of this movie upsets me the most.
>>149145469It sounds silly, but people who care about Toy Story would've allegedly been an audience this movie targeted, so why fuck with them of all people?
