The two are VERY different. Know how "How To Train Your Dragon" book was a very short one, and a non-serious thing for little children, and the movie is more serious, and more mature? Yeah, Dragon Rider the books are reasonably serious, while the movie is much more of a comedy with some good action in places. Book and movie are very different. Also the book is a longer story.

Pretty much what has been said before, it's something a kid can see and get entertained with, boom is better and has more depth but all around it gets all the important bits and makes something good out of them, I was kinda hoping for the great reveal of the frog to happen, I think there wasn't one on the movie, sadly
